Walking back to Happiness

Well. Welcome to this thread.

You may be surprised why it is here or happy it is here. Then again: ‘You have got to be joking! Do you know what is wrong with me?’ may be your response.

This all began on the Extreme Fatigue thread. On there several people wanted and needed inspiration/incentive to get out and walk. Many people see the benefits of it in their life and to help on this; mad journey, train ride, rollercoaster ride and other positively rude words journey called Breast Cancer.

It is not a thread created to make anyone feel less than they do at present. It is not a thread that will set people against one another. Being competitive with yourself or a simple challenge to yourself is the point, but not a race against others is a key premis.

The idea is that you can do any of these or none:

  1. Post when you have walked.
  2. Post how many minutes you walked for.
  3. Post how you felt before, during or after. Or not at all.
  4. Post pictures from your walk, but ones that do not point to where you live.
  5. Post inspirational quotes, thoughts or comments.
  6. A simple like of people’s efforts is fine. No need to write an essay unless you feel the need.
  7. On a safety note. Do tell friends, family or the thread when you leave and return safely. Be aware of your personal safety at all times.

Well here goes.

Either it will grow and blossom, with lots of lovely people benefiting. Or I will have egg all over my face – not for the first time in my chequered life and career.

Leolady – may be adding in the odd gallop to my walks.

PS if you don't like us don't be cruel.

  • Yesterday we went back to do the trail we got wrong the day before. This time it was easy!

The trees are so tall. I used OH to give you a size guide. I wish I knew what they are?

We may not walk today as we need shopping then OH has promised me lunch in the hills at a restaurant we have been recommended.

Hope the ' brisk 10' goes well for all trying. Take care.

  • I find the ‘brisk 10 an interesting concept….if it’s as cold as it has been these last couple of days, any walk I do outside is brisk!

Wow, , I just looked, yes those trees are tall!

Today is mentally getting ready for changing the van, and think I will need to get in the driving seat and start this one up to make sure it goes!

  • you have a challenging time now and hope all goes well.

I want to live next door to you !!

Sorry have just come on here after a few days away….so an old photo for you…. and video of this squirrel pretending to be a birdokay that might  not have come out I can’t tell so here is another on the same lovely morning last Sunday …Aren’t we having some gorgeous mornings??xx

  • It’s good for me  because I’ve slowed down a lot lately so do walk but perhaps don’t benefit as much and I need to exercise to keep my type 2 down . Enjoy your walks

One step at a time and ...Breathe !

  • I downloaded the app, thanks , and have done 26 minutes during my half hour walk, but I stopped to take some photos and then had a chat with a neighbour!

  • However, the site has refused to post my photos, will try again, perhaps reducing size as the site used to have problems with that….

  • Ha! That’s what it was, the file size!

Wow! These trees look amazing. They remind me of Eucalyptus seen on Madeira. I get the impression you're somewhere Mediterranean, so that would be likely.

Today's walk along the Thames was extremely brisk due to the cold so I exceeded expectations. I'm going to experiment and find out how fast 'brisk' is. Anyway, however you walk, it still counts - just 30 mins of any physical activity a week makes a difference!

I took a few pics today, but haven't figured out how to insert yet...

  • Hi Fran, , when you type in there should be a sort of ‘mountain’ icon, if you click on that it should lead you to your photo library on your phone (I’m assuming that’s how you’re typing on site) or to taking a photo. The file size is not huge, I had to reduce mine to post just now. But then you can choose and then click ‘Reply’ and hopefully it will post!

Thanks Moomy [haven't figured out how to link a person's name in reply either Sweat smile]. I have a go on my phone - I'm using a laptop (MacBook) at the moment as my fingers don't work too well on the phone (peripheral neuropathy grrr!). All I can see here is 'Insert' and a dropdown list. I have asked Tech support, so will wait to see what they have to say...
