Hallo :-) I was just wondering if any one has been offered either of these tests?

I have noticed around the forum that people have mentioned and suggested both.  When I asked my oncologist whether i was PR+/- positive or negative i was told 'We don't do that here'.
I am now wondering whether I have a complete picture of possible prognosis and how effective my aromatase inhibitor is. Has anyone had these tests, and may i ask which health authority they are in (I am in East Sussex). Many thanks in advance.

    Hi

I just replied to your other message about Oncotype here - Then noticed you joined the group and posted a new discussion - good move.

Welcome to the group by the way :)

Not so many years back labs routinely tested for both ER and PR but the treatment is basically the same for either / both so a lot of labs now once they find ER+ positive don't go on to test for PR now.

It is very uncommon to be found PR+ Positive but ER- Negative

    Take care, G n' J

    Hi

Its the ER score that counts as the drugs and treatments are based on either ER pos, her2 pos or triple neg.

I was triple negative but with a score of 3/8 for PR but with such a low score it didn't make any difference.

I think the PR score would have no bearing on aromatase inhibitors.

    Thanks Dream, panic over !

  • I do of course have to be different lol. My cancer was ER - and PR+. If your tumour was ER+ and you're taking a hormone therapy for that, then the PR status is irrelevant as the treatment is the same.

  • Hi Backayard

I think you've already had chemo ? The oncotype test is for people who are borderline for chemo to see if they should have it ?

Yes I've already had chemo. So too late now ! It's just that i had difficulties tolerating chemo, completed 4 out of 6 cycles, oncologist discontinued docetaxel and offered a return to FEC but i declined.  With all the issues that emerged, I wondered whether i may have been able to avoid it. But whatever the onco score - i had 2 positive lymph nodes so it was probably best. xx

  • Yes you probably ticked other boxes for chemo , everyone has such individual diagnoses that it is hard to compare sometimes .... hope you are okay now ? Have you had lasting side-effects ? X

Yes i probably ticked other boxes for chemo, tumour was 3.2 - 4cm. Still have hardly any hair and finger & toenails nails are all dark (despite being regularly scrubbed & oiled), fatigue and occasional nerve and tingling numbness in fingers/hands.   I suppose normal for anyone who has undergone this.  Radiotherapy coming up so we'll see how that goes. Thanks for your kind reply x

  • When did you finish your chemo ? I finished mine on the 26th January , I had my first hair cut on Saturday - a number 3 all over as it was very , very curly. It was a good couple of months before it started to properly grow back. My nails are still suffering , I've just cut out the last of the blackness on my fingernails - mine became infected and lifted but I didn't lose any. My toenails are a mixture of ones which are okay and ones which are still black and one of my big toenails is wobbly and I think could still come off ... but I can paint all my nails now , even though they are all a bit weird.

Hot flushes are a pain , I've had acupuncture to see if that helps - think it may have a bit, but seeing my gp on Friday to see what they suggest.

I am starting back at work tomorrow properly so will be interesting to see how I adjust ...,

I'm just glad I'm still alive really , but need to shift a few stone in weight which seems to not want to move anywhere !

Keep your chin up , I can't comment on radiotherapy as I haven't had any, but it will soon be in the past and not the future.
