Going out of my mind with worry clinic rang me with a date for 4 weeks time already been a week gp said I would be seen in two... major melt down in work today has resulted in a phone call to a private hospital for a consultation tomorrow morning

Can't really afford it but can't carry on like this can't concentrate and frightened of making a mistake or missing something important in work....anybody have any experience of going private initially then back to nhs

Frustratingly the consultant is the same one I would be seeing via my appointment in 4 weeks

Hi - I'm in Northern Ireland and am just chipping in about waiting times. I saw my GP on a Friday morning and she referred me to a hospital straightaway. The hospital phoned me before 9am on the following Monday and my tests etc were done the Monday after that, with results provided the same day, as the hospital has on-site pathologists. Mighty efficient and it looks like we in NI are very lucky.

  • I did a dip in and out of the private system when I was diagnosed. Initial diagnosis and mammogram/biopsies were all done in the NHS, and I was given a NHS appointment to see oncologist. As my head was all over the place and I couldn't sleep at all, I asked to see the onco. privately - the best money I've ever spent. Got my appointment really quickly and started chemo the following day. Everything else was in the NHS.

    Good luck with your treatment

    Hi Annielee.

I was the same couldn't wait. Came straight down from doctors and looked up private hospitals that could take me that day. Went up got mammogram and ultrasound. They then referred me back to nhs. Got appointment 2 weeks later for biopsy with nhs. The waiting really is the hardest part.

    Good luck. X

So I'm back from my consultation said he could feel lumps in both breasts but nothing he would be concerned about most probably cysts ..did add if he was he would have recommended a scan etc today .....the puckering he said could be related to scar tissue forming on the glands as a result of a minor car accident I had last year from the seat belt (had whiplash ) that is causing the skin to draw inwards from the scarring. He said he can never be 100% sure but does not feel there is anything pointing towards there being cancer however to keep my mammogram appointment and he or his colleague will see me there (also nhs consultant )

Incidentally also had a t/c from the breast clinic on the way to my appointment with a cancellation a week sooner than planned so a two week wait to confirm via tests but it was definitely worth going .. x it's still at the back of my mind but having someone discuss and explain in depth to me what he was looking for and found has helped xx

    Morning

That is good news, so much better than it could have been.

Fingers crossed for a similar outcome from appt number 2

Do keep a look out for further changes though, the only sign J had was her nipple was starting to invert a little :-/

Hello All, I am too going out of my mind with worry. Went to Drs last thursday 2nd Jan with quite large painless breast lump( I am 63) He put in urgent referral so should get appt. within 2 weeks. I get a phone call from surgery secretary on Mon 6th to say my paper work : ie referral is waiting at surgery for collection with my Ref No. etc. I go and collect and go straight to work, open envelope first thing I read is: Suspected Breast Cancer!!!! Should receive call from breast clinic by 9th Jan for appt. That was yesterday. Breast clinic not been answering their phones all week since Monday just message saying no one to take call today. Chased up with Drs Secretary she said there is a 3-4 week wait as there is a back log should get appt. by end of Jan!!!! Worried, angry and upset.

  • without saying that you wouldn’t get seen quickly.  I had a 2 week referral age 40 for swelling under arm and it was nothing.  Recalled from first routine mammogram age 50!  No lump but I had BC.  I’m 4 years cheat now x
