  • Good morning....

I hope you are all coping in the heat.   gave you good advice yesterday if you're not sure how to manage.

It is important to keep drinking....sadly not wine.....water, tonic, tissane, tea are best. Coffee and alcohol  will dehydrate quickly. Dark rooms and closed windows will keep rooms cooler. I am lucky as I have shutters and stone walls but I know modern buildings are less cool.

Most important.....don't go outside between 11.00 and 16.00. Tempting though it might be.....unless you have thick woods with a running brook in your garden......even paddling pools or swimming should be left until later in the evening.

I have had my windows open since 06.00 but I will close them soon as the sun will come onto my house and close the shutters. I will do any outside jobs now like putting out washing ( hat and sunscreen essential) or weeding and extra watering( underneath plants not over leaves) and shop at 08.30 then this afternoon will be for indoor crafting and the tv tennis. I can get a few more jobs done this evening but also take the opportunity of the warmth to read in the garden with solar garden lights, although a citronella candle becomes a must......

OH says he thinks that most important coping mechanism is to stop telling yourself you feel hot ( even when you do!) He says you deal with it better if you stop reminding yourself.

For anyone reading this post who doesn't know me or where I am......our temperatures have been over 30°  all  week now and we expect 37° shade temp today  so over 40° in the sun.

HOT ......OH won't be pleased with me!

Seriously though....take care. I am used to this but you might not be. There's a huge difference between 24°....old summer hot. .....and 30°. It does need a change of daily pattern.

    Love to all. Karen

  • Thanks,  , all useful reminders, plus I love the one about ‘thinking’ it’s not hot! That might well help me over the next few days till hopefully the temp will ease a bit.

I also open the loft hatch at night, it drops down so easy to do, just push and the lock clicks open. (Hot air rises!)

I’ve already taken Henry-dog for his toilet walk, got the washing machine spinning its final spin and driven daughter to the station and it’s still not 9am!

However, today I have to drive to my podiatry appointment so Henry will be alone for about an hour and a half, but this afternoon we can chill out and snooze. Daughter will be dropped nearby on Saturday evening after her gigs. (It’s Elbow this time, for anyone who knows of them, and there’s one track that all the brass players swap their instruments for clarinets, quite a learning curve for 2 out of the 3 of them, ably taught by the third!)

  • Oh, and I’m already beginning to freeze surplus loganberries for the winters porridge topping, they are early. I also spotted a blueberry beginning to change colour, really very early. I noticed that quite a few loganberries are nowhere near as plump as normal, due to the very dry spring I guess.

  • Didn't want to start a new thread and Awake seemed appropriate but just putting it out there - how are we all coping with the heat?

I will have my moan - not loving it. Sleep non existent,  ankles and legs puffy and very achy, hot flashes make me feel clammy and I just feel off. Anyway, trying to soldier on and keep going. I hope you are all doing OK? X

  • It’s not a lot of fun, was 29° here today. A bit of a game persuading Henry-dog it was too hot to play! But we both rested in the middle of the day. And yes  my ankles are puffy too.

Just got back from his evening walk, loads and loads of sniffs (which is also apparently exercise) as well as his essentials.

English houses built in the 1970s are not built for hot weather….

  • Hi Fruit Loops, hope you are all finding a way to stay cool!

I read your post and just had to put up some pics I found ages ago and put on here years back. Although not sure if you were around then. S9 thought I would re share as I think they cover how I and probably you, feel in this HOT weather and during Hot Flushes….

Well this was me today!! Which would be okay if I wasn’t at the hospital getting bloods drawn!

Then there’s the solution to hot flushes….

Just try to avoid sitting on the butter….. very messy!!!!!

Then the cooling method I should of used while in a public place… whoops!

But just remember there could be some positives to Hot Flushes!

    Oh No, perhaps not… CR*P!!!

    IF ONLY!

So you see Hun, I can’t offer you any solutions but I can TRY to make you laugh and let you know that you are NOT alone!

I HATE this weather! But I will stand hand in hand, although it’s a sweaty hand, with you and together we WILL get through the coming Days, weeks or months!

You know Hun, on here a Fruit Loop is NEVER alone! Take care Hun. Really hope you are sound asleep! Which is where I should be.

    Night Night Fruit Loops! Xxxx
