  • Sadly,   I’m now home again, it was a very short holiday (5 nights) but yes, certainly super-lucky with the weather!

  • Good morning...

Both moon and sunrise together as I took a short walk before everyone else wakes up.

  • Hiya londonlass.

I hope your results were good.

Im new here today and have a gastroscopy booked for Monday. I’m pretty nervous.

I wanted to ask about Barrett’s. Can I ask what your symptoms were for needing the gastroscopy and having Barrett’s?

sorry to come in mid posts!

  • Hi  I had a Gastroscopy originally because of Acid Reflux at night!
During the procedure an area of suspected Barrett’s was found, so it was biopsied. Results came back as Barrett’s, which basically means the area has an appearance like the lining of your stomach, instead of like the oesophagus as it should look!
However I spoke to the Specialist after receiving results and he said it’s nothing to much to be worried about and he would keep an eye. He arranged for another Gastroscopy for 5 years later. Which is the one I had a little while back. On this occasion the lady doing the procedure said the area had increased in size however the biopsy came back clear of Barrett’s! They will keep an eye by repeating the test every 5 years!

I do take a high dose of Lansoprazole which concerns me! However it has helped with the acid reflux!

My one piece of advice to you is ask for the throat spray AND sedation! It is not a painful procedure but it is unpleasant….. in my opinion!

Wishing you all the best. Sal xxxx

  • On one hand it’s great it’s nothing to worry too much about, on the other it’s another diagnosis that you can’t help but worry about! I hope it’s the former for you, you’ve already enough to deal with Heart️

  • Mum has had to go back into hospital. She couldn't breathe properly and was too stressed for me and OH to deal with on her own. The ambulance service was excellent....7 minutes, five paramedics of differing qualifications and an English speaking nurse. Their only failing was the contact number they gave me is incorrect so I can't find out how she is. They said to wait 3 hours for her to be properly assessed. They wouldn't let me be with her anyway. She needs to sleep so I hope they have sedated her. I'll go in the morning..........

  •    at this point I’m actually more stressed about what the long term side effects are, for taking such a high dose of Lansoprazole. Which I can’t stop taking because I have a hiatus hernia and without the Lansoprazole my acid reflux will return and that will cause more damage to oesophagus and possibly create more Barrett’s?!

At this moment in time I worry constantly about all the different drugs that I take and what the long term issues might be…. However without these drugs I would be suffering and so therefore I have to trust in these drugs and the doctors who prescribe them! Easier said than done!

Although interestingly I had a text to organise my annual drug review, from my GP practice pharmacist. Annual?? Hhhm. Isn’t that usually yearly? I haven’t had my drugs reviewed by them, since I started taking them back in 2017?! Perhaps annual in Devon is 8 yearly! Close enough! I wasn’t going to bother, but it might be interesting to see what he has to say about long term use of some of these drugs! Xxx
