.
Good morning....
I've mislaid my neurologist's prescription and blood test request. Anyone else done something that stupid? I have one week to find the blood test ' ordnance' as Mum and I have a home visit next Thursday morning at 07.00 but.....I'm running out of places to look. I'm also running out of pills although I can probably email secretary for a repeat. So that's my day.....at least I can tidy as I search!
We have missed the snow and ice. Just rain again. Where is the sun? Have you got it Dicha ?
LondonLass .....How was yesterday? What news? Thinking of you.
seaspirit44 ....hope the eye has settled overnight. I know today can be painful as meds wear off.
Take care all. Stay safe as the weather continues to cross UK.
Thank you everyone for your kind words yesterday. I feel bad because I’ve only really popped in and out as I’ve had issues and not really been around to help any of you, Sorry! I just haven’t had the energy to even read the thread lately, my head has been all over the place!
Anyway that aside. I wanted to let you all know that my appointment yesterday went well. I, for once made sure I asked all the questions I needed too, even if they felt ‘silly’ questions. Then I was led by what my Onco thought would be best for me!
So his suggestion was as the Cancer is still just in the same one place, the Sternum. The best thing to do would be to treat that one area by zapping it with a dose of Radiotherapy. Now this will be subject to them getting my previous radiotherapy records which for some reason they don’t have and checking that that area wasn’t zapped before! Now I know it wasn’t actually zapped but I obviously don’t know if it was in the outer area of my initial treatment?? Although he did say even if it was on the outer area it’s been 10years since I last had Radiotherapy that it might not matter anyway!
So then he had me lying down while he drew an area out on my sternum with his Sharpie, nice green colour! Then the lady from the radiotherapy department who had come in to join us, then but a plastic sheet on top to copy out the area, then took a photo. Meanwhile Onco has disappeared off to get all the paperwork and discuss with Radiotherapy Doc!
When he got back he explained there were 2 types of Radiotherapy, which was a bit of a waste of time because he then said one only penetrates 3cm BUT your Cancer is 4cm deep so we can only use the other one! Then of course nothing is simple, they then have to do a CT planning session, which with the other radiotherapy machine they wouldn’t have had too! But because this type of Radiotherapy goes deeper they now have to worry about my heart being in the area of treatment! So will now have to do a CT to check position and then use a bolus to prevent the radiotherapy from going too deep, in other words keeping the heart from getting a full on zap!
So current situation is awaiting the CT scan for that, then awaiting the actual Radiotherapy session…. Just one this time. So that’ll be a breeze! Side effects will be usually redness, although he said I might burn slightly more because the bolus used means the skin takes more of the zap! Also possible feeling a bit sick, heartburn and or a cough because the esophagus is right behind the treated area. But hopefully having this will blast any Cancer that’s beginning to come back and fingers firmly crossed help with the pain!
Then I will see him again after all that. At that point we will discuss whether or not it would be a good time to add In Denosumab, which I’m still not 100% about! But maybe given time I can talk myself into it!
Apologies for a very long winded reply! But think that covered the entire appointment minus all the questions I asked. Can I just ask if any of you lovely ladies are on Denosumab and if so how have you found it and secondly did any of the longer term possible side effects worry you at all? I’ve never really been someone that read through the whole list of side effects, but having been left suffering so long term after my initial treatments I do tend to look into things more now, which has made making decisions much harder! And far more stressful than perhaps things need to be!
Thanks again for all the kind words they were much appreciated and sending lots of Love to all the Fruit Loops. I hope you are all currently doing as well as you can be and sending extra (((((hugs))))) to those going through treatment at the moment! May the time fly by and the side effects be few! Love to you all. Sal xxxxx
Morning to you Lacomtekp ! I am guilty as charged, we do indeed have that sunshine. In fact the temperatures this week have not been lower than 20⁰ during the day. Even night time temperatures have been unseasonally high. There have been people sat in swimming togs on the beach, even a few brave souls entering the water. But don't worry, our temperatures are going to drop to more normal levels next week.

Morning LondonLass . Gosh that was a very complicated consultation, but it does sound as if if was very thorough too. Let's hope the hospital can trace your previous radiotherapy notes asap. Don't forget, we are all here for you. Take care my friend.️

Bless you, Sal/LondonLass that was a good long explanation of that decision and let’s all hope it works and you get free of that pain in the sternum.
Big hugs xxx

Hope you find it Karen but as you say silver lining is ..you can tidy as you look bit like visitors coming we reach places we didn’t before I’m lucky prescriptions are sent to pharmacy via computer by GP. We then get a text when it ready .
we can also order repeat on -line then just go to pharmacy when ready . It works really well even when we have face to face and require immediate meds fo infections etc the prescription is sent and ready for collection on way home .
keep well hope your weather improves we hibernating was -6 this morning glad we at home even colder in the Pennines ️
️
Morning LondonLass glad the appointment was thorough and very explanatory..all questions answered . Hopefully you can now get some of the cotton wool out of head and apply your usual focus to the things in hand .
take care Sal tell LP he sticking with you for little while but Bella will look after you if he urgently needed elsewhere.
ok enough of the serious stuff
It sounds like it was a very thorough and positive appointment with the onco. A plan is in place to zap that one naughty area that is causing the problem. I hope you are able to relax a little bit now and know you just have a process to go through in the hands of the specialists.
I'm afraid I can't proffer any advice about the Denosumab but if none of the fruit loops has experience of it you could start a new post on it.
Sending love and hugs x
