Hi Karen A stottie is larger than a bap and a bit denser. I bake mine about 6/8 inch circular .Its mixed with milk and water risen only once and rolled. Into shape prick with fork and finger indent in middle . Outer very like oven bottom baked and dusted with flour .
My memory as a child of peasepudding it was made after boiling a ham shank ( hock) then putting soaked peas into the stock to boil then simmer removing any scum as it appears adding salt as needed for taste . Stirring until paste like not worrying bout small lumps .
now because I don't want too much salt I do the following
about 500grams of yellow split peas
Add onion .couple carrots ( peeled but whole ) and perhaps bay leaf cover with water
boil then simmer four bout hour / hour half stirring till thickening
remove onion ,carrot and bay
blend pea to a thick paste
add two tble spoon malt vinegar season salt / pepper and beat butter bout 1 1/4 spoons small amount at a time
mix is still hot so will melt .
if too thick add some hot water ( will thicken as cools )
I like it spray fried after it cooled so bit black .
enjoy
Hi \seaspirit
I was at school Pathania, lovely Greek name, but our rather snooty French teacher called her pathetic Pathania one day and it stuck. Poor girl. She wasn’t pathetic - just a quiet girl with a name that was a little different.
I also knew a family called” "Bytheway” - which was a great embarrassment to the daughters of the family as they had quite unusual first names too. The girls wanted their dad to change the name by deed poll but he wouldn’t here of it.
I was born a Williams, married to become a Smith - and have since married again to another rather “common” surname - beginning with a W. As a child, I always wished for a surname startling with A or B as I almost always last on any register; but being at the bottom of a list, but my name badge is easier to find at most events I attend. - as they are usually laid out in alphabetical order. When a Smith I was often amazed at how many people would ask me how to spell my surname.
My youngest daughter’s marriage didn’t last too long - she had married a Bell and hated it, and after the divorce couldn’t’ wait to get rid of it. Her sister would write to her addressing the envelopes with all weirded and wonderful surnames. One day she received a card addressed to her with her favourite film star’s surname, she was very happy with that and changed to it by deed poll.
Take care everyone and stay safe xx
