Oh gosh weeblemum ......really got my fingers crossed for you ! Dr says I am not neutropenic , but neutrophils are low ! He checked what they usually are on the day I get chemo , and they are a bit higher than today . But the point is ......no one has ever checked them on a Saturday before , I suspect this is just “ normal “ ......will be here until tomorrow. I keep my hospital bag packed and had to laugh when I found a hairbrush in it ! There is a walking group lunch Tuesday that I have paid for and was looking forward to .....but that is not to be now !  Bit by bit I am cancelling things , even though I don’t feel ill , and I am beginning to wonder if it is worth it ........I want quality of life , and that is really selfish of me when so many of you don’t feel well , have pain , are struggling .......sorry !

Don't be sorry - I have days where I feel a bit like that too - sick and tried of feeling sick and tired, largely due to the treatment rather than the cause!

Sorry that you're being kept in overnight  - hopefully it'll be a more comfortable one than last night and they do the ward round early and get you out and home before too long!

I've just got back from 6 hours in A&E (and it wasn't even busy!) with more antibiotics to cover the line infection and a probable lower respiratory tract infection. Now have no voice, so definitely something bubbling under! Bloods okay, although had to have them done twice as they got the results from the first lot then the lab told them I'd have to have them redone as there were clots on the first sample - took them 3 hours to tell A&E that though!

Silly mare who took first lot of bloods ignored me pointing her in the right direction for the most likely vein, so went in where SHE wanted, jiggled it around like a madman when there was only a trickle, so I'm sporting a good bruise there already. She then decided to go in elsewhere to try and get more  - chose a vein in the back of my hand and said 'that will be very painful but we've got no choice!'. Now, I'm not afraid of needles but to me, if she had said that to someone with a needle phobia, they'd have been out of the door befoe she'd even tried! It wasn't that painful anyway, but she missed the vein and then gave up altogether. Not surprised that the sample had clotted...

She was a right misery!  Good thing they decided NOT to cannulate for IV antibiotics as she'd have never got one in!

When they wanted the second lot of bloods, the nurse took notice of me and got them first time! Funny that...

Then, just to throw a confused spanner in the works, my BP was normal when I first went in, then for some reason shot up to 220/126, which is WAY too high. They then took it again a bit later in both arms - left was 186 systolic, the right arm 117. That worried them as they're not meant to be more than 10 points different. Doctor said that it was white coat syndrome, which didn't really explain only one stressed arm!!!!

When they did it again about an hour later, both arms were normal, which is good as they were thinking about keeping me in to monitor it!!!

So, I've taken my OH out for a Sunday trip again - at least A&E is a cheap date!!!

Now got precautionary antibiotics - have to take 7, but they gave me a whole box of 28 as they said they couldn't split them. They told me to discard the rest - what a waste! I wonder how many times that happens in a day!

Hope everyone has had a good Sunday!

    I need a nap...

  • and I think you both need a.......

Hope you both have a good nights sleep! Xxxx

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!

  • Oh nooooo , not again! I do hope you can recover at home, and get rid of the wretched bug quickly xxxx

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!

  • Of course you want quality of,life , I totally get how you feel. It is so frustrating having to cancel things, especially someone as vibrant and active as you. Please don't give up. You don't yet know how you are responding to the chemo. You are not selfish at all, no need to apologise. Xxxxx

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!

  • What a nightmare ,! Why do some nurses just not listen to us? I had a lot of they in my last admission. Crazy BP s due to unnecessary stress, has some of that too!
