I went for a scan on my right breast after finding a suspicious lump under the skin on the outside of my nipple.the radiographer confirmed a solid mass and explained he would like to take a biopsy there and then.this was all a bit of a surprise to me as I hadn't been that fussed about it.he said the doctors have their weekly meeting the following day but my biopsy results wouldn't be back so wait a week to hear anything.the next day a breast nurse called me to say my case had been talked about as the radiologist had concerns over my scan and booked me an appointment for the following week after my biopsy results could be discussed and treatment planned along with my biopsy results.i became quite emotional and said I felt frightened and she said it was understandable and to call her anytime.i also asked if I still had to go to the appointment even if biopsy results said nothing wrong and she said yes.what I want to know really (il get to the point) is can the radiologist tell from the scan that it is cancer?are they preparing me slightly for the results?my appointment is exactly a week today and I feel extremily apprehensive
Yes I have an appointment which the breast nurse confirmed with me the day after my biopsy.it is on Friday so not too much longer to wait.yes it is dissertation year along with a six month work placement that I start in three weeks.lets hope this doesn't put a spanner in the works!Xx
It will be good to get this out of the way before the weekend.
Here's to a Spanner Free Zone. You don't really need this at the moment (or any other time really)
Hi, hope you dont mind me messaging, I have just joined this group and have been following your post,I didn't see the outcome of your results, I am in the exact same position, had biopsy and told highly likely cancer and are preparing me, my appointment for results is another week away...
I know we are not Drs but has anyone had enough ultrasounds to know if one seems suspicious or not? I found a lump over a year ago, had it checked they said it was fluid filled and nothing needed to be done. Had my most recent ultrasound and less than 24 hrs later Dr called to say they are sending me to a breast surgeon because there was another mass and the old one was bigger than before. Of course appt is 2 weeks away and I'm kind of freaking out. The us Tec was cool and showed me the lump and explained things but never mentioned the second lump that the Dr did!?
Morning
Warm welcome to the club no one expected to join :(
I suppose a lot has to do with how experienced the ultrasound tech is - If they have been doing US breast scans for a few years they get to know what looks suspicious and what is less of a concern. There are many reasons for lumps in the breast that are not cancer related, hopefully this will be the case for you too.
It could be your 2nd lump was being obscured by the fluid filled cyst - It is more likely they didn't comment because although it was noticed no conclusions could be made as to what it was at the time.
Did you have any biopsy tissue taken at the time of the us scan ? because it is unusual to refer you to a surgeon before a biopsy has been taken and examined as nobody would know if this lump is benign or not.
Even most benign lumps will continue to grow so to avoid problems are often removed so please don't worry that just because surgery is a possibility this is definitely cancerous.
You don't mention your age and I notice you have 98 in your member name and am wondering if this is your date of birth ? Not saying young people don't get anything nasty found, just that it is very unlikely in anyone under 25.
Know this is a scary time, but try to do things, go places or chuck yourself into a hobby - Anything to occupy your mind and get through the emotional waiting time.
Take care, G n' J
They know when something is different and like dream their says it will depend how experienced they are ,but to be on the safe side they always report on anything out of ordinary no one can be sure until biopsy but when I had was diagnosed she did tell me it looked very suspicious and dr who did biopsies told me he was more or less sure it was cancer . Waiting sucks doesn't it only thing you can do is try to keep busy I won't say don't worry because you will spend time with cheerful freinds and family . Hope all ok sending you hugs we are here if you want to scream and shout
Thanks for the quick response! I have not had a biopsy, my in gym sent me for ultrasound and its the obgyn sending me to the surgeon. I am 28. And I was surprised with being told about the second one because she was so detailed and explained all kinds of stuff. While she was looking at the one I know about. This is all new to me so sorry for the confusion!
Hi all- this is a group I never wanted to find myself in ... especially at 30yrs old. I am currently waiting on biopsy results after find a pretty palpable lump on holiday a couple of weeks ago and then having an ultrasound and mammogram. The radiographer more or less confirmed the news I had absolutely been dreading. I guess my question is whether there are cancer looking lumps that do end up being benign... or am I just wishful thinking? Â Im absolutely terrified though...Â

A radiographer is unlikely to say something looks like cancer if they are not sure, sadly. You have done the best thing for you by joining this group though and we will help you through the treatment.
The worst part is before you have a treatment plan so keep busy and pop in with any questions.
If you want to start your own discussion just click on the new discussion box at the top of the page.
I am currently in that situation. I am awaiting my results but the radiographer seemed 100% sure it is cancer. I am preparing myself for that.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
