My mum has had breast cancer 3 times over the last few years, and unfortunately, they've now found a lesion in her brain that they think has travelled from her breast.
They are looking into the option of surgery or stereotactic radiotherapy, but have said they aren't treating to cure.
Has anyone else had experience of this situation? How long mum has of course depends on how she responds to treatment, but I'm just hoping to hear some people's experiences of this kind of radiotherapy, and how effective it could be. I've heard some people can live with a brain tumour for years so staying hopeful.

I am sorry your mum has breast cancer that has travelled to her brain. Although I have secondary breast cancer, I don’t have this exact experience as mine travelled to my liver. It’s quite usual for doctors to say they aren’t treating secondary cancer to cure it. Once it has travelled from the breast to somewhere else, cancer has been in either the lymph system or the blood system, so microscopic cancer cells that can’t be seen on a scan could be elsewhere. Treatment usually aims to keep the cancer, and the side effects of the cancer under control. It’s good your mum may be a candidate for some localised surgery or stereotactic radiotherapy. I was similarly able to have some localised treatment in my liver, which was helpful. I hope someone with experience of these treatments comes along; you also might want to consider adding your question to our main Breast cancer forum as there may be some people with experience there.
