Hi hope everyone is well

I am awaiting neurology appointment on 23rd this month and a possible lumbar puncture , around 6 weeks ago I had loss of vision , static vision , zig zags and just complete loss of vision and just felt really wired and out of control was terrifying this lasted between 15-25 mins happened again last Thursday both times absolutely have terrified me hence the referral to neurology I have pushed for mri or scan as had eyes checked everything perfect structure wise and really don’t think it’s normal to lose ur vision suddenly and this has now been two episodes I have other symptoms pressure in head , facial numbness , ringing in ears , nausea & sickness . This has led to extreme anxiety both times as I feel like I’m now waiting on when is it going to happen next I know from a scan 3 years ago I had empty sella syndrome  and pale optic nerves but these were done 3 years ago I have contacted doctor Friday about getting an appointment tomorrow as I’m terrified of this vision loss as I’m only 29 and never experienced loss of vision never mind twice in two weeks and it’s left me in a state of fear  I just don’t feel myself at all just very scared can someone offer any advice that would be great .

thanhs in advance

stay safe x

  • What do you mean “categoric?”
I failed the field vision in my right eye and he had me retake it. The 4th time, I passed it. He did a picture of my eye and said the optic nerve is pale. He dilated my eyes and said it was less pale when he looked at it that way. He said everything else is checking out well. He said it could be a wide array of things. Is a pale optic nerve the same as I get cranial pressure on the optic nerve? I didn’t ask. He didn’t refer me to anyone else or for an mri. He wants to see my back in 6 weeks. Does this sound like it could be from a tumor? I asked and he said he wasn’t thinking tumor but he didn’t want to speculate and ruin my holiday.

  • I mean, do an MRI and put your mind at rest that there is nothing sinister going on in your brain.

  • It would be quite awhile before I could get in for that. The eye doctor definitely felt like something was going on. After reading up, it sounds like most optic nerve pallor is due to lesions in the brain. I am very concerned and not sure if waiting 6 weeks is going to be okay for me.

  • Can you go private if you can afford it? A brain MRI and consultation might set you back £1000.

  • Jeez  akist!! - really a grand??

Iv’e had maybe.. 20 scans so far

Am I worth it? .. Dunno, Answers on a postcard Scream

  • How did your appt turn out? I am having issues with my vision—found out I have a pale optic nerve and failed my field test in my right eye. I’ve been having head pains on the left. Today it is increased in intensity, but still off and on. I also feel nauseous and very stressed.

Sorry been so busy with appointments and Xmas I hadn’t had time to do an update I had high pressure on my lumbar puncture which was already expected  so was put on medication  and also an increase iPurple heartthe propranolol 40mg to help with auras and visual disturbances and I have been put on topirmate also … the ophthalmologist has said they think I have a really slow form of papiledema as they changePurple heartfrom 6 weeks ago are only Tiny when comparing scans my edges of discs are just very blurry …. So now been referred for another test EER and VER basically tells you how the signals between brains andPurple heartyes are working , but since my last post my auras have been happening more frequent and getting worse the symptoms you get with auras can be stroke like so makes them very scary so I again have yet Purple heartother lumbar puncture after new year followed by a mri as the Neuro and ophthalmology agreed that because last one was 2019 and with the sudden changes in vision etc and sudden onset of auras alongsPurple hearte various other symptoms that a up to date mri is needed … thankfully my consultants have been amazing on both parts I am just reading over your messages and catching up and I will reply to your messge … wishing you all a safe and happy , healthy merry Christmas

  • Thanks for responding. Have they ruled out a brain tumor?

  • I do feel as if this is something bad. Here’s what is going on…left head pains off and on, left arm feels “off”, failed field vision test the first 2 times, picture of right eye showed pallor optic nerve, some dizziness, and today (two days after dilation) my vision has been horrible, especially up close. If I don’t focus my eyes JUST right, then I’m see almost like double vision. My chiro called me yesterday because so sent him notes from the eye doctor. He said he is now concerned with all of the symptoms I have going on. I asked him if the eye dr would have been able to find inter-cranial pressure and he said yes but nothing was noted on my exam. Can a brain tumor cause headaches and loss of vision without inter-cranial pressure (bc things I read say those symptoms are caused by the pressure in the head). He is going to send me for a ct scan or mri. Today, the head pains have been in different areas. Feels like someone is squeezing my head, and pulling on my hair.

does this seem likely for a brain tumor?

  • Hi

Can opticians send GP an urgent letter

    Recommending an MRI???

The GP needs to send you asap to neurologist or fir an MRI head scan. My son had a brain tumour that WASN'T picked up by the eye tests he had.  The GP was convinced it was migraines. 6 months later he went private for an MRI. Just keep on at them until you get the care you are entitled to.

Sorry to worry you but time is of the essence here.
