Brain Cancer

I have had multiple brain scans now over a period of extensive left side brain cancer to the highest levels. I would like the developments assessed by computer to distinguish developing areas and non developing areas.

Also to see the results on a 3D rotatable imaging. I  am undertaking extensive dietary changes to fight the Cancer growth - chemo and radiation would be very limited and probably a very short term suppression. The hospital here in UK says growth is surprisingly little currently and another scan in many months (MRI’s only) next. But I don’t feel I have adequate information on the cancer.

There are private scan considerations in this way but expensive, can the NHS not help? or anyone else? I need to know where I stand to plan my remsing life appropriately

a warm welcome to the community.

I hear your concerns and I feel for you. I supported my late husband through the three years of his Glioblastoma journey so have some experience of the standard scan protocols on the NHS ( 3 monthly MRIs to monitor). If you feel you haven't been given enough information about your personal situation, the best people to talk to are your medical team.

I asked G's oncologist at one point about the accuracy and consistency of MRI results. We got sent round various hospitals in our health authority so it was rarely the same MRI scanner. He explained in basic terms that the scan results can vary slightly depending on how the machine is calibrated. He went on to explain that the images are "slices" of the brain and if these slices are taken slightly further apart then they can potentially not present a 100% accurate image. We're talking mm's here as they are very finely calibrated. perhaps you could speak to your oncologist about this.

If the scan is done after an injection of the contrast dye, the dye will highlight areas with a blood supply as I understand it.

There's some information on the main website regarding the different types of scan that may be offered. Here's the link-Types of tests and scans | Macmillan Cancer Support

With regards to going privately for scans, again you would need to speak to your Drs but the costs will run to several hundred pounds per scan.
