Atypical meningioma

Hi everyone this is my first post and I’m sorry if this is a long rambling post .

My partner was admitted into hospital on Sunday night after suffering a seizure .

After having a ct scan Sunday then an mri on Monday we where  told that they had found a 5cm  tumour Atypical meningioma with oedema . Another  scan showed thankfully that there is no evidence of cancer anywhere .

He was discharged on Wednesday without seeing anyone from neurology, just a telephone call to say that an appointment has been made for him on Monday . with the neurosurgical team .

Has anyone else been diagnosed with this type of tumour ?  I have googled and have seen that it dosent automatically mean it is a cancer but it it could be . We haven’t spoken to neurology yet , only ward drs who told us the news .  All questions that we have asked where met with “we are not neurologists so we don’t know “

Does anyone one know what the next steps would be ? Will he need biopsy to confirm his diagnosis .?

This has all come as such a shock to us and our family . We are just feeling in limbo at the moment .

  • HI Hella

a warm welcome to the group. Sorry to hear about all that's been going on.

My personal experience lies in supporting my late husband through his stage 4 brain tumour journey so an entirely different scenario.

This is a safe and supportive space so hopefully one of the others with more relevant experience will be along shortly with their words of wisdom. In the meantime I have looked up some generic info for you Meningioma in adults | Macmillan Cancer Support

Your own medical team are the ones best placed to discuss specifics with you as they have the full picture. While you are waiting for the neurology appointment can I suggest that you write down all your questions/concerns and take those notes with you to the appointment. They can then act as a script and help to ensure that you don't forget to ask about something that's important to you. There's no such thing as a silly question.

As I said this is a safe and supportive space so please reach out here anytime. There's always someone about to listen who gets it, someone to hold your hand and to offer a virtual hug when its needed. You're not alone. We've got you.

It’s always good to talk so please remember that you can also call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, emotional support, benefit and financial guidance or just a listening ear.

For now though I'm sending you a huge virtual hug and lots of positive energy.

    Love n hugs

    Wee Me xx
