About to start PLV Chemo -diet plans?

Hello all,

Hoping there maybe someone out there who has been through this type of chemo.

So quick bit of back ground. Female, 41 at time of diagnosis. Oligodendroglioma grade 3. Found after seizure and had a craniotomy a few weeks later where about 50 to 60% was removed. Then had a few months to recover before receiving 33 rounds of radiotherapy. Now it's time for chemo...

The thing that is really stressing me out at the moment is the foods I can not eat on this type of chemo. I've been told to have a tryamine free diet for the days I am taking the P part of PLV (formerly PCV) AND for 7 days after. So 17 days of a 42  day cycle.

I am keen to come up with a meal plan to stick to in this time but am so confused about what I can and can not eat.... does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could include for a 7 day meal plan?

I know it seems like a small thing to think about but if I put my time and effort into thinking about this I won't have to think about all the other bits going on...

Thanks all.

  • HI Brainy Teacher

a warm welcome to the group. So sorry to hear about all that's been going on.

I'm sorry to say I've no personal experience with the chemo regime that you mentioned or the dietary requirements. My late husband only had oral chemo (TMZ) during his stage 4 glioblastoma journey.

Your medical team should be able to give you dietary advice or put you in touch with a nutritionist if a  tryamine free diet is a requirement.

This is a safe and supportive space so I confident that some of the others will be along shortly to share their personal experiences with you. There's always someone around who gets it, someone to hold your hand and to offer a virtual hug when its necessary. You could also reach out on the online community's Ask an Expert tab.

It’s always good to talk so please remember that you can also call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, emotional support, benefit and financial guidance or just a listening ear.

for now though I'm sending you a huge virtual hug and lots of positive energy. Sorry I have no recipes I can share.

    love n hugs

  • Hi all. Good news! Vegan pesto does not have parmesan in! The CNS team gave me a long list of foods I can not eat whilst on this diet, so I sat down and made a list of foods I can and can't eat. This way it's far easier for me to come up with a meal plan for the week.

Hopefully going to start chemo on Wednesday but have bloods tomorrow to say whether or not it can go ahead. So as of tomorrow no more cups of tea, ham, mature cheese, anything aged or smoked, grapes, spoilt fruit/veg etc...

So please keep me in your thoughts over the next few weeks as I begin part 3 of my journey.

    Thanks for your support.
