I am so sorry to hear that . It’s devastating to initially hear it’s spread . Do you know where the nodules are located?

Bowel cancer that has spread still has many different treatment options . My mum had a spread to her liver and lung ( separately ) and still lived for a further 15 years .

They normally start with chemo to tackle all spread systemically.  This is a good plan . The aim is to gain stability and possibly some shrinkage . 

In terms of telling your kids . I am not sure about age groups but further treatment being required was how we always processed it and we were adult kids . The grandchildren got told that some cells needed chemotherapy for now to stop them growing . 
Either way it was all the truth and the aim of treatment .

It’s a shock so take it one process at a time .
