My mum had emergency surgery for a burst bowel back in January. We were told that it would be very risky as my mum is 79 but fortunately she came through the op and after being in hospital for 6 weeks she came home. Whilst she was in hospital we were told that a tumour in her bowel had caused her bowel to burst and it was cancerous. They took as much of the diseased bowel out as possible and she now has a stoma. Unfortunately not all of the cancer was removed and it had spread to lymph nodes which they removed. The consultant then said they would wait a few months to see if she had recovered enough to possibly start chemo. She had an appointment at christies recently where they told us they did not think she was strong enough for chemo and to just live her life as best she can. This is very scary because we don't know when she will become ill or what signs to look out for. Her appetite has started to wane a little recently and we are so worried.
