Colonoscopy results 3 large polyps

Hi everyone

So after 1 year of symptoms of constipation and heavy rectal bleeding, low b12 I decided to get things checked. From 1st app with gp to my colonoscopy yesterday it was only 3 weeks.

I had a colonoscopy 9 years ago and only 1mm polyp was found and removed.

so was shocked yesterday to find that there where 3 polyps

1st one is 15mm

2nd one is 25mm

3rd is 30mm this one shocked me because of how it looked. A bit like a cauliflower is the only way to describe it.

the large one is the one that’s been bleeding.

the large polyp and 15mm are near my rectum.

my bowel was inflamed aswell.

I also may have another polyp but they weren’t completely sure due to the mucus in my bowel.

10 biopsies taken and I’ve been referred for an urgent ct scan which means taking the bowel prep again. Gross

I’m hoping they aren’t cancerous but I just have a feeling they or some Of them will be.

Hi Cheshcat ,

Sorry to hear your news. When I had mine they told me while I was still in the room it was cancer, but they did the biopsies to confirm. I didn't look at the screen so I have no idea what it looked like unfortunately. I'm not sure if that's standard or not, but you would need to wait for the biopsy results to be certain anyway.

You shouldn't need to take the bowel prep for a standard CT scan. It should only be needed if you were having a virtual colonscopy - although you may be having that.

Yes have been told I will need to do the bowel prep again. It’s absolutely vile.

has anyone had a virtual ct bowel scan? How long before you get results?

mine is on the 3rd August. Different bowel prep to colonoscopy.

also how long before you get colonoscopy results?

They give you the Colonoscopy results before you leave the department. With regards to CT bowel scan I get the results in Clinic two weeks later.

Had my ct scan on Monday now to wait for results. I still haven’t had my results from my colonoscopy. Should I call the hospital to see if they have them? My colonoscopy was on the 20th July and they took 10 biopsies. It’s the waiting that’s so hard. I’m taking a few days off work as I’m just mentally exhausted.

did anyone here have to wait weeks for biopsy?

My partner didn't have to wait that long. I'd def ring. It's usually much quicker than that and yes the waiting is awful.

I do have a phone call appointment for the 18th August with colorectal department. That was booked on the 31st July. Had my ct scan on the 3rd so I’m presuming this will be to tell me my results.

I was given picolax which is a sachet of powder you mix with a cup of water and drink then I had to have 2 bottles of omnipaque which can cause diarrhoea but it’s a special dye that marks out any left over poo in your bowel so it doesn’t get mistakes for growths.
