Ascending Colon tumour

Hi everyone, new here.

Newly diagnosed yesterday after a colonoscopy. I initially went to my gp for lower left abdominal cramping which actually turned out to be ibs but a tumour was found attached to my colon further up.

I fear if I hadn't bothered going to my gp or had blood in my fit test, I wouldn't have known anything about it. I just haven't had pain there. Its 3cm, and I'm waiting to find out from a ct scan how far down the rabbit hole im going. I live with my dementia mother who is supportive but needs telling again and again which is so stressful. I am so scared of metastases. I'm trying to ground myself and be in the moment but its like trying to ignore a nightmare. X

Hi Bluephoenixeggs and a warm welcome to the board. Yes the first couple of weeks waiting for tests and results is very stressful but once you have a plan in place then things will honestly feel a bit better and even if there are metastases then there is still a lot of treatment available.

Bowel cancer is notoriously slow growing but very treatable - I was diagnosed with a 4cm tumour in 2016 and I’m still ‘no evidence of disease’ as are many people who have passed through the board and are now getting on with their lives.

I’ve attached a copy of the booklet that I was given at my first meeting which may help with potential treatment terminology etc.
