Hello!
So today is diagnoses day for me, bowel cancer with a possibility spread to liver and lymph node. Further scans this week and surgery booked for next week.

Huge whirlwind for me, after over a year being miss diagnosed and finally forcing my GP (after a year of miss diagnoses and then 2 positive FIT tests) to refer me for a colonoscopy, I have bowel cancer. Feeling very angry and frustrated but that won’t help me here. I have a PET scan and MRI this week, surgery booked for next week so super quick!

Im 42 years old, personal trainer and nutrition coach so prognosis look ok. But I'm so new to this and it’s not common for someone of my age.

Keen to chat with anyone in a similar boat to me!

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the board. I was 53 when I was diagnosed and that was classed as pretty young as it’s traditionally an ‘older’ persons disease although there are more and more cases of younger people being diagnosed in the press.

Sounds like things are moving quickly on the treatment front and you’ll be in a good position fitness wise to recover quickly. Bowel cancer is notoriously slow growing but very treatable and there are lots of people who have passed through the board and are still ‘no evidence of disease’ - I was diagnosed in 2016 and I’m still NED. I’ve attached a link to a booklet about the op which has some handy hints on things to take into hospital - an extra long charging cable is a must!

    Hope all goes well
