So i am waiting for results of a faecal test as bile malabsorption and bacterial gut overload seems prob. The appropriate antibiotics need to be determined. I have been following fodmap guide not to feed bacteria till results arrive.but feeling pretty grim
Hi I also had a right hemicolectomy and suffered bowel issues. The urgency was so bad many times just made it, sorry to say other times no. I was told it was because of my op and it takes time to settle down, WRONG!!!! I did my own research and found out about Bile Acid Malabsorption and everything fell into place. I had to push and push to get what is called a SEHCAT scan, which sole purpose is to check for BAM, short for Bile Acid Malabsorption. Apparently 70% of people who have a right hemi op end up with BAM after my SEHCAT scan it was discovered I had severe case, 98% of my bile went into my colon. Which causes extreme urgency and all the other stuff. Sorry to say it not a case of a few antibiotics but life long bile binders and a lot of experimenting with timing and dose. Also diet, no coffee also psyllium husk which is not prescription. After 4 months of experimenting with dose etc now everything is normal. I strongly suggest if you have co pilot ask it about BAM. If you have it and it sounds like you do it will change your life. Let me know if you would like more info I am happy to help, by the way not all places have a SEHCAT machine a lot do just a special poo test as said in one of you posts received.
