Had to follow our hospital's red card procedure and go to A&E on Monday. Sepsis diagnosed. Fortunately, immediate antibiotics etc. Source and nature of the infection are still unknown. I have fluid on my abdomen, so I'm waiting for an appointment with an appropriately qualified radiologist to get a drain fitted. Not my best week.
Hi JoulesF That’s exactly what I had! My GP thought it was sepsis but the hospital said it was an infected build up of fluid behind the rejoin. I was admitted and a sample of the fluid that I was passing out of my bottom (despite having a stoma) was sent off for testing although it took them a few days to identify the infection. I had some of the fluid drained off during the CT scan and then the drain was left in to drain into a bag at the side of my bed. I’ll be honest - it was probably the toughest point of my recovery and trying to get comfy with a plastic tube inserted into my buttock was extremely difficult.
Really hoping the fluid clears up quickly and your stay is a short one
Take care
