Hi I am new to this forum. I had a colonoscopy on Saturday and was told I had colon cancer I have got to have a CT scan and then the MDT will decide from there. I am absolutely terrified.

  • Hi  ,

it’s a scary time, but they know now and you are in the system.  It does feel better once you know the plan of action.

Trust your team, they will get you through this.
    sending you good thoughts!

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the board. As Cerys says, once you have a plan in place then things will honestly feel a bit better. Bowel cancer is notoriously slow growing and very treatable - I was diagnosed in 2016 and I’m still cancer free as are many others who have passed through the board and are now getting with their lives.

I’ve attached a link to a booklet which I was given at my first meeting which may help with what to expect, terminology etc.

The next few months may be tough but we’ll be here to help and support you through this

    Take care

  • Thank you Cerys

  • Hi KMB

Try not to worry - your team will discuss the options suitable for you and you will see your surgeon to discuss the way forward.

    If all happens very quickly.

I am 8 months post surgery, anterior resection, and had chemo from October to January this year.

Due review next week and I understand will have surveillance scans for 5 years.

    Stay positive x

  • Thank you for your reassurance

  • Hi KMB, its difficult not to worry I was just the same on hearing the same news last year. My experience was made so much easier because of the amazing team of people who helped me understand my situation and guide me through what lay ahead. Everyone in the teams you deal with are so dedicated, their focus is on making sure you get the very best care and outcome. I am now on the supported bowel cancer follow up, blood tests and CT scan this week. You will get through this, although it will be difficult at times, try to remain positive that will help you through..Mick

  • Thank you and good luck
