I am Derek, a young at heart 81 yr old. I had bowel cancer surgery at the beginning of March. All went well, but since coming home with a catheter, I have not been so good.
I was told that I would have an appointment with urology in seven days but it hasn’t happened which is very depressing. Sorry to be a moaner, this isn’t the me I want to be!

Delboy,
I had a catheter last year for some months, not connected to colorectal surgery from several years earlier. The catheter was uncomfortable every day whereas the stoma was no problem at all. Daily routine (and sleeping) were disrupted. Once the catheter was removed life quickly returned to normal. I guess you just have to bear it until wounds heal and flow increases. Keep drinking water little and often. It might take 12 weeks to resolve from surgery date, in my experience.

Hey, I had a catheter the start of this year in the end I ended up going to my local a&e because it was causing significant discomfort they took it out for me there made me sit until I passed enough urine for then to be able to say I’m okay without it. I waited way beyond the date I was told I’d of had my catheter out and no one contacted me to do it. So I called around and a&e are able to help.
