Just about to start the journey still trying to come to terms with the news

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the board. Yes it’s a shock but once you have a treatment plan in place then things will honestly feel a bit better?

Bowel cancer is notoriously slow growing but very treatable and there’s lots of success stories on here. Stay away from google - it can be scary and out of date - stay on here and the bowel cancer uk board.
We’re all at different stages of treatment and recovery and we’ll be happy to help and support you through yours.

    Take care

  • It is shocking news MM , i but now you know what you are dealing with and can get on getting on. I wish you all the best on your journey...chin up, you got this Pray

  • I have also had the worst news and was totally unprepared. Waiting for histology results atm and struggling with the unknown.
I am 64 but still working and feel I’m letting people down as can’t plan anything atm -

  • Hi  Please don’t feel like you’re letting people down. Once you have your treatment plan then you will honestly feel a bit better and can plan for the time ahead. Depending on your job then you may feel up to working around any treatment days - I had an office job and felt it was a good distraction rather than sitting at home mulling over things?

Work is obliged to make allowances for you so do what is best for you because you have to be number 1 priority at the minute

    Take care

  • Work are being supportive but just getting stressed about it all. I should get results on Friday or Monday and then will be more in control of what comes next.
thank you for your reply x

  • I am still in shock things are moving quickly I am trying not to catasrophies this and reach out for positives I am so lucky that I retired 2 years ago at 60 and my partner only works a couple of days a week. I cannot begin to imagine how some people who are still at work with mortgages and children must feel when this news drops !!!!

  • Hi Ardnas5323ac,

Im 66 and a few months ago I was i  the same position as you are now. Wow it is a total headspi  isn't it, yes the unknown is the big thing as there are so many scenarios to cope with.

Being positive does help (yeah I know it's easy to say). Talk it through with someone your nearest and dearest is probably thinking it's the elephant in the room!

Next when ever you talk with a health care provider ask any questions that come to you no matter how simple knowledge is power. Take some one with you to the appointments as you will pick up on something and then miss the next few things as it spins round your head. If you can take notes, they won't mind.

What ever is decided will be with your input and consent.

Good luck stay positive and remember we are all here to bounce off if you need.

    Peter

  • I can’t fault the care I have been given so far as it was all sorted very quickly from poo sample colonoscopy and scan. Was such a shock as apart from blood in poo and change in bowel motions I feel well.
Telling everyone not to ignore these symptoms!! You never know !

  • Thank you for reply. I remain positive and have absolute faith in the care system as I have worked as a carer for all my working life - not sure I want to be on this side of it but will get results and power through Muscle

  • That has been my exact journey so far as well didn’t pick up on changes in bowel movements as I could have due to surgery many years ago that made them ad hoc depending what I ate or drank but fingers crossed. I have just found out today when talking to family that both my father and his father died of this I am so glad huge medical advances have take giant leaps
