Just wanted to reach out and say hi.
I'm new to all this
I'm 51, male from West Yorks with rectal cancer.
I'm at the stage where I have to do the fitness test, then waiting for the date for my op.
It all looks contained and they want to remove in one go with a temp stoma bag.
My strengths lay with my partner, family, friends and me being able to freely talk about the cancer.
I've got the Swan technique down pat, looking all cool and calm on the surface. But have my wobbles, more so when I'm by myself and have time to think about it.
Despite the crappy rainy weather today, have a good day and better weekend.
Regards
Hi MBeanicus and a warm welcome to the board from a Yorkshire lass now living in Lincolnshire. Yes it’s a scary time but you need to get the tumour in the bin. It’s good that it’s contained and I’m sure you’ll get used to the temporary stoma- there’s lots of advice on the board below

I’ve attached a link to a booklet about the op too which has a good list of things to take with you - extra long charging cable a must!

We’re all at different stages of treatment and recovery on here and, if you click on peoples names, then their profile page may show their treatment to date. Feel free to ask anything you like - there’s nothing too daft or embarrassing!
Take care

ps my hubby told me the weather would be better down here but it’s just as wet as Halifax today!
Hi MBeanicus,
Welcome to this community. I'm a little ahead of you in years and along the journey.
I did a sample test in early Augusr and from there it was a whirlwind.
I had a colorectal resection in early September and awoke to a temporary stoma. You will get all the help you need
The cancer was contained and had not spread to the lymph nodes. The section was sent away and tested.
After discussion I am now awaiting a reversal of the stoma. You will talk to you surgeon and an oncologist.
There are tough moments to come yes but it sounds like you have strong support at home and a good team around you, don't be afraid to ask any questions I did and some of them I thought were ridiculous but everyone from the colorectal nurses and doctors to the stoma care team were brilliant.
Keep positive and follow all the advice you are given
You caught it early, the outlook is good. Good luck
Peter
From one Swan to another - I get it.
Do take time for yourself, I started doing forest walks after my diagnosis...just time for my own thoughts and for the swan to have a wobble if she needed. The trees don't mind if you shed a tear.
Very glad to hear yours is contained & you have good support, thats wonderful. Look after yourself & all the best.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
