Hi all. I'm just over 2 weeks out of surgery for stoma, in preparation for radio and chemotherapy. So many questions! Glad to have been pointed to Macmillan :)

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the board from me. I was going to post the link for the stoma board but I see that you’ve already found it! Hope you’re coping ok with your stoma and there’s lots of great advice on there if you need any.

I’ve attached a link to a post that we did a while ago about the chemo radiotherapy

    https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer_types/bowel-colon-rectum-cancer-forum/f/new-here-say-hello/227598/radiotherapy-care-top-tips

I found it to be very doable if I’m honest. My feet were a bit prickly by the end but that passed over quickly and I didn’t really suffer from any fatigue.
The chemo is in tablet form and a pretty low dose that’s used to enhance the effect of the radiotherapy. It can be very effective at shrinking rectal/anal tumours so fingers crossed it has that effect for you.

Take care and please feel free to ask anything you like - we’re all at different stages of treatment and recovery and will be happy to help and support you through yours

  • Hi Karen and thank you for replying and for the link. Very much fingers crossed for the radiotherapy shrinking the tumour - it's five weeks of it, so it'll have enough time! The plan then includes 3 months chemo, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it, I guess. Seems like a very friendly and supportive community - so pleased that I was directed to you x
