Hi
i have what might be a different situation. I am English, but i live in Thailand.
at the end of September i had most of my colon removed in emergency surgery. CT scans show it did not spread.
they have put me on Capecitabine for 8 cycles. just finished the meds weeks but today in my med free week i have felt worse than in the previous 2 weeks. nothing terrible but i have sent out change of address notices for me having moved into the toilet. sorry poor humour is my way to deal with things.
what i would like to know is if others have had similar experiences and if i should expect this every time i have a med free week.
thanks in advance for any help
take care
Hi JohnG6489ba57 ,
It's very normal unfortunately. I always looked forward to the med free weeks and always felt worse I asked my team and they said it's normal.
Make sure you mention everything to your team in your catch up call though - they may need to adjust the dose or other medications.
I hope you have a smooth run (no pun intended, but feel free to read one there as I also think humour helps).
Best wishes
CerysM
Hi thanks for the info
Most of my team don't speak English this is a big issue. Also it seems the cancer doctors are only there Wednesdays I am due back next week but in the mean time eating is a no go. Any food does not last more than a couple of hours
Right now feeling rather alone.
Hi they found the issue and it's not side effect related instead it's an infection of the stomach lining. Should be home in a few days and second cycle hopefully in a week or 2. Thanks for the kind wishes and support it means the world to me
HI John,
Please don't feel that way - we are all here for you and we've all been there (actually I've just found out mines back, so I still very much am there with you right now).....
Please do try to eat, just eat whatever you can, you need to keep your strength up as much as possible.
I'm diabetic too (type II) and I can't eat sugar, but when on chemo I was told - just eat what you can eat. Cancer first - diabetes second was their motto. Sometimes cake is the answer, or at least the only thing that will go in.
If you are feeling sick there are medications (I was on Domperidone) they can offer or you can get over the counter I would imagine, same for the loo visits (I was on Loperamide). In the UK they are prescribed, but I don't know the situation where you are maybe you need to buy them?
Could you reach out to a macmillan nurse on here and ask their advice? I'm sure they'll be able to tell you which meds to ask for.
Please continue to keep reaching out on here when feeling alone. There will hopefully be someone online most times of the day.
Wishing you all the very best. You can beat it!

Thank you so much. Firstly I send you strength and hugs for your fight. I too am type 2. Right now I am in a and e as 10 times in a day is a bit much.
I am on the same anti diarettic but it's not working. They are talking about upping the dose.
I will be fine just I find the language barrier difficult. Well that and the cost. 10 grand just for the surgery and 9 days in hospital. I am lucky my wife works at the hospital and we get staff discount so to speak but it's been a rough 7 weeks since the emergency surgery.
I really appreciate you taking the time to help this old git get through.
Doctors are positive and so am I it's the getting there that's difficult
Take care and look after yourself
PS we are 7 hours in front of UK time

Same diagnosis and treatment. I had no issues until the end of my first round then a little sickness. I'm told the sickness and diarrhea often arrives at this stages but is often temporary. I'm starting cycle two tomorrow and feeling ok. Try to stay positive and meds should control your issues!
Thanks. Meds not doing the job but hospital now given me imodium to back it up. My second cycle should start next Thursday. Mostly I am positive but when you spend most of the time in the loo it's not so easy. Knowing I can chat with like minded people is helping. Thanks again for your kind words take care

More of them and anti nausea meds that I don't use some for stomach pains. All test results came back normal so that's a start. Sleep and a meal would help
