I had a positive fit tedt yesterday 23.9 . I have health anxiety so am understandably thinking the worst.  Been put on tge 2ww cancer pathway.  Any advice would be appreciated

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the board. The positive fit test indicates that there has been blood found in your sample however this could be caused by polyps, diverticulitis, ibs, colitis etc. Only 1 in 10 colonoscopies results in a bowel cancer diagnosis and it is a very effective way of getting to the cause of the issue. If, and it is a very big if at this stage, it did turn out to be bowel cancer then there is a lot of treatment available with successful results.

Try not to stress about the what ifs and wait until you know what you’re dealing with (if anything) as worrying will cause lots of gurgling and niggles and then you’ll be in a spiral of more worry and more niggles

Take care and please let us know how you get on?

  • Hi Maxine,

We are are in a similar position, I've also had a positive test and the what ifs scenarios are playing in my head.

I have my colonoscopy tomorrow so hopefully will get an indication of what the issue might be.

    Try and stay positive.

  • Thank you I have had yo take time of work so I just burst out crying when I found out . The doctor worded it awful on my health records it said "patient aware it could be cancer and to take someone with her"

  • I am in the same boat - had a test reading 80.6 that came back today - waiting for the referral now
