Coccyx pain and sciatica prior to my diagnosis of rectal cancer

Hello. I have just been diagnosed with rectal cancer after a colonoscopy was performed because of an abnormal bowel screening test. I don't have any symptoms but do have a sore coccyx and occasional sciatica. The sore coccyx started about 8 months ago. I put it down to sitting at my job too much. I am waiting for the cancer to be staged and have a CT and MRI next week. As the coccyx sits directly under the rectum, I am imagining all sorts, such as the tumour has invaded the coccyx. Has anyone else experienced coccyx pain/ sciatica prior to a diagnosis of rectal cancer?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'.
