The Financial part of this terrifying situation:

My boss is really supportive with all this mess I am going through,  but I personally lost more than £15000 this year due to my career changes, luckily I did not lost my job so far... but  is getting to the point of me starting to panic about the bils and all the complications of not having enough money coming in to pay for everything.

Surviving on £118 a week is really impossible as I did mentioned on my previous post all this cancer situation is new and terrifying Flushed  to me and my family. Hospital travels,  hospital parking, medication.

Is a monster in my head the cancers themselves plus the Financial burden

Can someone please advise if possible if there are any help out there to balance all this.

Kind regards,

  • Hi  Yes there is help available. Your support nurse/GP should be able to provide you with a Medical Exemption Form which will entitle you to free prescriptions

There are also benefits and some grants available. I’ve attached a link to the various support pages on the board so you can look at the various topics that are covered but it may be easier to ring the support desk on the number below and speak to one of their financial support workers?

Once you have a treatment plan in place then things will honestly feel a bit better? I continued working in the lead up to my operation and then part-time after when I was having chemo. Try not to led your mind run away to the worse case scenarios - there’s no harm in being prepared but things might not be as devasting as your imagination is letting you believe

    Take care

  • whereabouts do you live? if in London you might be able to get reduced travel/ free travel in some cases. If you can get a blue badge that often means hospital parking is free. Macmillan on the phone are helpful- the national number. Or if you have a local Macmillan centre (or Maggie's if it's okay to mention them here). I do agree it's a lot, hold on, prioritise treatment, there is helpxx

  • Hi Kim,

    I live in Essex.

I just started to look for help... but is so confusing and really annoying.

Thank you very much for your help and message Thumbsup

  • I would call Macmillan honestly

  • Hi, it is all really overwhelming at first. As others have said, I would call Macmillan. Shortly after I got diagnosed a lovely Macmillan nurse called me up and one of the questions she asked was whether we needed any financial help xx
