Diagnosed in June when I had surgery to remove a chunk of my colon after stomach pain

  • Now on chemotherapy. I had my first infusion on Friday and am.getting used to the regime.
  • Concerned about avoiding infection but keen to get out in the garden (when feeling wellenough)
  • Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
  • I am determined to stay positive and want to keep active without taking silly risks?
  • I have been on Pallative chemo for 3 years now ( 11 years since first diagnosed and had operation) and have carried on gardening as much as possible. I try to wear gloves of differnt types dependinf on what I am doing (leather gaunlets for Rose pruning to Latex dispoables for planting seeds in greenhouse. Some of the time need to wear gloves just to feel warm. Toolstation or Screwfix both have an incrdible rang of gloves for different purposes. Also wear a dust mask if dusty or likely to be fungal spores present. Just do not ovedo it physically. Follow basic hygine measures when handling composts etc.

My view is that the net effaect of gardening has more positives than negatives. Keep planning your garden for next year!
