Hi

I am mum to a son who has colorectal cancer with liver mets . He was diagnosed in March 2023 at age 35. He is single and so returned home to live with us, his parents. He had radiotherapy  chemotherapy and immunotherapy. He has an illiostomy and has had no trouble with it at all. Unfortunately all of the treatment had little effect and 12 months ago he decided not to undergo any further treatment.  He is young and strong and is doing incredibly well despite struggling with fatigue. He needs me to be strong and I am. We live each day as it comes but i simply feel broken. I don't know what to expect and how long he can remain in his present health. I am terrified

  • Hi

    Welcome to the forum .
You sound incredibly strong but you are also human and a mum and this is incredibly harsh at the best of times watching people you love going through treatment without it being your child .

Sometimes you need a safe place to say what is really going on behind the stiff upper lip . There are specific forums for relatives who are dealing with non curative cancer so they can support each other free of worrying about what they really feel . You are welcome to join them too .

But we are here to support you and listen . To be that soft place to land when it’s all getting overwhelming.

Sending you lots of love and support .

Also if you need to get help from your GP or counselling do reach out .

    Take care ,

  • Hi

Thanks for the reply. It is good to get it off my chest. I have a loving supportive family but obviously they are my sons family too and each coping with their own emotions. Thanks again
