I am going out of my mind with anxiety.
Bloods were all ok but the fit test is 200 and I have left side pain.
The doctor said don’t worry and has sent me for a colonoscopy within 2 weeks but I’m petrified.
Can’t help but Google symptoms which is always worst case scenario.
Please help
In the words of Corporal Jones “Don’t panic!” I was being investigated for four months for IBS, coeliac, diverticulitis and gluten intolerance because of left side pain and massively high inflammation markers, a CT scan eventually found a tumour at the splenic juncture ( where the transverse colon turns down into the descending colon) and this was confirmed to be malignant with colonoscopy. I’m guessing that you’re terrified that you may have a similar diagnosis, and whilst it’s natural to be scared, treatment nowadays is straightforward and prognosis is good.
It’s good news that you are now “in the system” and in the good hands of experts who know exactly what they’re doing. It’s also good news that you are very soon getting a diagnosis, the earlier the better! My Mother in law was admitted and diagnosed because of a blockage, caused by a tumour, and had the operation a month ago, and last week was told that there was no spread, and they’ll just keep regular checks on her.
if your pain is indeed being caused by a tumour it’s likely to be removed with surgery ( mine was done by laparoscopic ( key hole) surgery, and the tumour removed with good clean margins, together with 45 adjacent lymph nodes, 5 of which were “positive” which meant that 9 rounds of chemo have been prescribed to mop up any cancer cells that have travelled to other places and prevent them taking hold.
This community is full of people at various stages of the “journey”, all with our own stories, all with varying effects fro chemo, and all absolutely understanding of how scared you feel right now. As you get further along with tests, diagnoses, and treatments your fear will recede. You’ll get to know your surgical team, and your ontological team, and is, plus all the resources that MacMillan have to support you. ( Understandably the weeks up to diagnosis and treatment plan will be worst… I live in Spain and my GP prescribed a low dose of Bromazapam, to reduce anxiety.
mall the best to you, and keep in touch, ask anything you want, somebody here will have the answer
@netty65 Try not to panic yet. The fit test only shows you have blood in your poo - could be polyps or internal haemorrhoids and not necessarily cancer.
The only way of dealing with the waiting is to not let your mind go into overdrive - easier said than done. Keep away from google.
Good luck with the colonoscopy x
