Hi, I’m due to start this chemo as second line treatment for metastatic colon cancer in a few days. Anyone out there with any tips for dealing with the side effects?
Hi Dozer and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.
I've searched the group for previous post which mention encorafenib and cetuximab and found these for you to have a look through.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Hi Dozer
My mum used Cetuximab alone due to her age . It was easier than chemo as the side effects seemed to take a turn then recede .
The most tricky ones being the skin care . Some trusts have different protocols but mums team had her on continuous antibiotics. They gave her special soaps to use and creams . She also had a tube of steroid in the fridge for any bad flare up but really did not need them .
Mainly her skin was dry and she had to pile on the lotion .
Altuist suncream , you can get it on Amazon is very gentle and easy to apply . A dermatologist has designed it and mum was able to use it but I would be very careful in the sun . Even her hair burnt !
The other tricky side effects was magnesium. Hard to keep it up and the supplements gave her a very runny tummy. We found it best to make your own breakfast cereal filled with all the small ingredients that hold magnesium. Dark chocolate too !
Mouth ulcers can be an issue for some but straight into your Gp if the first mouth wash does not work as they have others and mums disappeared after her GP got involved .
She was much less affected by it on the whole and still enjoyed going out and about . She took it for ten months when she 81 . Passed last year but she actually got brilliant results on use using it .
Definitely get wee cotton gloves . The nail beds take a bit of a hammering and. They are nice and gentle on them
.
Wishing you every success.

Get ahead of the magnesium hit !
