I'm a 52 male recently been diagnosed with rectum cancer. Was hoping to.have radiotherapy and chemotherapy together to shrink my tumour, but unfortunately when I had my stoma fitted my cancer has spread to my stomach lining. I had my 1st set of chemo via tablets. No symptoms at all. They have now offered me folfox and panitunumab via a picc line (inserted central catheter). Not going to lie I'm nervous.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

It's natural to be nervous when you're heading for treatment but, if my treatment is anything to go by, you'll be well looked after.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi

    Welcome to the forum .

My mum used a target treatment and she got good results from it .

Have you asked about surgical options with your team .?
Some people go onto have Hipec at specialist centres.  As you will be aware there seems to be criteria and protocols for all procedures but nothing to loose in asking .

My mum was dealing with various spreads over years . She was 15 years as a stage 4 diagnosis , she made it to 82 !
Lots of uncertainty , especially in the beginning .

    Take care ,
