Lump in rectum

Hi there,

Just new here.. I've had an ongoing situation now for around 6 months. I started feeling a lump inside my rectum whist wiping after opening my bowels. At first it didn't concern me as I just assumed it was a hemorrhoid and would go away in time. Fast forward 6 months and it's still there with no sign of going away..

I went to my GP around 1 month ago and they done an examination but couldn't feel anything. They put it down to a hemorrhoid.

Last week it started getting much larger and quite sore. Back to the doctors, this time they felt and seen the lump and thought it may be a perianal hematoma and may need draining. They sent me to see the surgical team in hospital but they didn't seem concerned at all (didn't really seem interested if i'm honest). At that stage the lump had got a but smaller. They said they wouldn't do anything surgically and sent me off home with anusol to take for a week.

The lump is now a bit bigger again and seems to be getting lower and closer all the time to the opening of my anus. It feels very hard, but no pain or bleeding at all at the minute.

Does anyone have any similar expierence? I am planning on going back to the doctor again next week after the course of anusol but I don't expect that to resolve things as it's been so long. Starting to get concerend I am just getting fobbed off and it could be something serious.

Many thanks.

  • Hey. I dont want to alarm you but please get this checked out and be persistant. My dad had this and it was rectal cancer. It is very treatable if found reasonably early so please insist they take it further and do tests on it.
please do keep us updated and im wishing you all the best. C

  • Hi there, thank you very much for the reply. The feeling of being alone in it all and not being listened to is worrying to say the least. I am calling the GP again first thing in the morning and going to insist on further investigations
