Hello everyone
I have been diagnosed with colon cancer and have a tumour in my transverse colon. I have already been through pre op chemo with oxaliplatin and cepaciteabine, I had an anaphylactic shock with oxaliplatin but they tried again 2nd time loaded with antihistamines but still had a very bad reaction
my surgery is this Friday for a right hemicolectomy, I am so anxious about the whole ordeal and would love to hear from anyone who has been through this and how they have faired and recovered. keyhole surgery hopefully
thank you
Thank you so much glad you have recovered
yes I’m dreading ileus heard it’s not very pleasant
take care x
Hi @Djay.
Hope the op went OK yesterday and you are now back in the ward and on the road to recovery.
Wishing you well.
Same- wishing you a speedy recovery Djay
P00hsticks I LOVE your screen name- thanks for making me smile xx
I hope your surgery went well. I had an emergency right hemicolectomy in November 23. The pain was bad for the first few days but then improved by the day. Recovery took 6 weeks in all. I also had a reaction to oxaliplatin so didn’t complete the 4 th round.
sending positive healing
Rachael
Hi Djay,
Only just seen your post and you will have had your surgery by now.
Not even sure you’ll be up to reading stuff a few days after surgery. I took motorcycle magazines into hospital with me and I couldn’t even find the concentration to look at the shiny bike pictures!
I’ll cut to the chase….
March the 6th last year I had a right hemicolectomy (stage 3 colon cancer) via keyhole (keyholes! Found five holes when I woke up ) and I was discharged on the following Sunday evening. A week later I was mobile enough to make a 300 mile train journey.
I didn’t have any chemo before the surgery but some of the lymph system removed with the colon had cancer cells so I started 12 weeks (4 cycles) of the Oxaliplatin/ capecitabine cocktail that you were on. It should have been 8 cycles (24 weeks) but I had really bad cold touch and it was agreed that I stop. I had a CT scan and blood test in December and all were good and then a colonoscopy last week and it too was clear.
so where am I a year on? I’m pretty good. I’m swimming 1.2km three times a week, I’m skydiving again and riding my motorbike.
Negatives? I can’t feel the ends of my fingers anymore. If I’m tiered, I seem to get very cold, or at least feel very cold, and milk goes through me like a Christmas tree being dragged backwards!
You don’t mention your age or fitness level before all this, and that’s none of anyone’s business. But, just to put it in some context, I’m 55, 60kg, 5’3” and my only fitness regime before the cancer was my swimming.
All the best in your recovery,
Paul
good to hear Paul. I am awaiting the outcome of my final CT scan after 11 of 13 weekends of adjuvant chemo( mix oxi with cisplaitin) Oxy was stopped bout 10 as I have Developed CIPN. I brought the scan forwards as it's been tough on chemo and if by 11 bouts it hasn't worked then the final 2 won't make much difference is my thinking and if there are no new tumours then the last two again wouldn't be needed but my last two bloods have been of real concern as alpha feto-protent levels are 50% above the normal range Nd I am really concerned as it may be a cancer marker for liver cancer..
But I won't know until the scan results and consultation Wednesday...any thoughts anyone?
I have now had surgery ,all went well, the surgeon said had I waited a few more days it would have been an emergency op because it was blocking my colon . Day 4 still in hospital but hoping to go today
I have no results yet but I know before the op that it had reached at least 3 lymph nodes so awaiting full results yet. The pain has been manageable although very sore but not as bad as I thought
thanks to everyone who has wished me well I hope the same for all of you
