Newly diagnosed ….

Hi all

My other half was diagnosed with prostrate cancer in July 2023…

His treatment is Hormone therapy, Darolutamide and doxcetaxel chemo therapy. CT  scans revealed the cancer had spread to his liver, but after having to stop cHemp after the 4th cycle, due to high liver enzymes they did a liver biopsy. Guess what…they’ve discovered that the liver cancer originated in the bowel…..he has both prostrate cancer and bowel cancer. His consultant says it’s highly unusual to develop two types of cancer at around the same time….wondering if anyone else has a similar experience? This has been such a dark time…..with things getting worse when you expect them to be getting better…….but we will do our best to beat this thing

  • Hi

It sounds like you and your other half have been going through a very difficult time recently and, although I'm not a member of this forum, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

    Sending virtual ((hugs))

  • Hi

Strangely enough we have had a few men with both prostate and bowel cancer . I will try and see if I can find them to link them in .
I can address the liver mets aspect as my mum originally had a spread but after two years managed to get surgery .

I will get back to you ,

  • Hi Court, I have replied to Goingloopy's post on the prostate forum, though we are are both non-secreting about the same age and have a 5 year prognosis and have/had bowel and prostate cancer, PCa, which has spread, mine is all PCa metastases and not concomitant cancers, often being concomitant has a better outlook, I would strongly suggest Goingloopy put her full up to date stats and as much about her husbands treatment as she can on the prostate forum, an example mine are T4 M2 N1a, Gleason 5+5 =10, PSA was 8.2 at diagnosis fell to 0.08 for 15 months, now 1.04, there are many treatments for PCa and lymph mets which can control the cancer for many years, PS mine is adenocarcinoma like 95% of PCa but I have an extremely aggressive type and pattern, I can't have chemo or surgery was diagnosed 2 years ago and recently told 5 more years, and I am still on treatment plan A, You and the guys on here are much better placed to advise on the bowel cancer than we are. best wishes.

    Eddie xx

  • Thanks

We will absolutely provide the support for the bowel tumour .

Interestingly enough there is a bit of research around 2017 but in cancer care that is slightly older research now but I will link it anyway .

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5729427/

But it does seem to suggest some link unless that’s been superseded by new research .

The “ask and expert “ section might know more . I can link that in too for you

  • Thanks Eddie…hope all is ok at the moment with you…..I’ve really appreciated your helpful replies to me on the Prostrate cancer forum…we have an appointment next week at a diferent hospital with a consultant who specialises in bowel cancer….we will no doubt find out more then. Meanwhile my OH is struggling with feeling unwell and unable to work for the first time since the original PC diagnosis last year….getting him down a bit so hopefully some treatment will start soon Fingers crossed

They might be able to get more information for you .

So glad your husband managed to get the right cell type now . I can understand this is a taxing time for you both . Bowel cancer that has spread to the liver is quite different to a lot of other primaries in that it can still have a lot of treatment options .

My mum had chemo first and has actually had two liver resections . Others use radio frequency ablation and others Chemo alone . There are also a lot of different chemotherapy options depending on the cell type of the bowel cancer . I will link in a good booklet that’s quite helpful in preparing for treatment.

It is a lot to process but we will help you through it step by step .

    Take care ,
