Hi everyone,

not sure if I’m in the right place or doing this right but anyway.  I have had IBS all my life , a colonoscopy five years ago , all ok and sigmoidoscopy two years ago , both because of rectal bleeding. I also have Diverticular Disease.

couple weeks ago had another episode of rectal bleeding. Saw GP and had a fit test and routine bloods. FIT test has come back positive. Bloods all ok

awaiting appointment for further investigations but Im obviously bit stressed and concerned. My appointment is scheduled for beginning of January. Im trying to stay busy and luckily this is good time to be busy .  Just reaching out really as I feel bit overwhelmed tonight.

Thank you for reading.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the board. As you’ve seen in the past IBS and Diverticulitis can both cause blood in your stools bit it’s good that your GP is getting you thoroughly checked out. Your GP doesn’t look to think it’s anything to be worried about otherwise you would have had an appointment through under the Gold Standard 2 week rule.

Its hard not to worry but only 1 in 10 colonoscopies results in a bowel cancer diagnosis. As you say, lots to do at this time of year so try to stay busy and distract yourself.
We’re always here if you’re having a bit of a wobble and the support desk is there 7 days a week from 8-8 if you want to chat to someone

    Take care

  • Thank you Karen , I think with Christmas in the middle this is the earliest appointment I could get , I appreciate you taking the time to post. It can be worrying and daunting waiting for appointments.

    Hi Eve118

this sounds very similar to me. Although I realise we are all very individual in this, and diagnosis could be totally different. I have diviticulitus and had a colonoscopy 3 years ago.
I have another colonoscopy this Friday. I’m surprised at how much I’m taking it in my stride , I guess I’m just thinking well it has to be done. My fit test came back positive too.

I will post once I’ve been and had colonoscopy with an update.

best wishes to you. It’s the waiting that appears to be the hardest. I think December flies by so hopefully won’t feel like too long for you.

  • Thank you    I hope to get my date soon. He said he’d do his best to get me in before Christmas. Of course , Sod’s Law I have only one special Christmas dinner booked to go to and probably that will be the date but sure  it will be a date I definitely have to keep Rofl. It was funny I said I could go any day but hopefully not the 21st as getting my hair cut and he said well you have to prioritise and the nurse and I both laughed and said together HAIR ( joking obviously!) but one us ladies can identify with at this time of year.

  • Edited to say I emailed after I got the January date and said with red flag symptoms five weeks was too long to wait , they rang on Monday and offered me cancellation for yesterday . I felt it was important to advocate on my own behalf  I’m not by nature assertive but have heard of too many people being fobbed off with serious consequences!

  • Well done  Please let us know how you get on? x

Well done for being assertive, it’s difficult for us that don’t want to bother anyone, but so important to do too. That’s really good ! I totally understand the hair thing too. I’ve been desperate to get to today as I have an appointment this after noon for hair..it sounds crazy but it matters to keep going somehow. I start my drinks tomorrow in prep for the colonoscopy Friday …wish I didn’t have the pressure of wondering if I’m visiting my daughter in Canada or not for Christmas. I suspect maybe I’m not as there would only be a few days after any biopsy…but I’m carrying on as normal to get hair done etc….I totally understand what your saying :) let me know how it goes would love to know how you get on.

  • Lillibeth if possible try and get to see your daughter. Will be a great distraction for you. Biopsy results I’ve been told can take a few weeks to be reported on.  Will be thinking of you tomorrow and Friday x

Thanks so much. I guess it depends on a few things, insurance being one possibly…I’d love to be able to go see her so fingers crossed I can…

    Sending good wishes to you

  • Of course …..  the insurance is big thing especially when having investigations.  Sorry I had forgotten that.
