Hi,just wondered, how quickly do you get after affects from chemo, I have my 1st one coming on Tuesday, will I feel anything during and straight after ?
or does it take a day or so to kick in?
Hi Splodge It depends! Some of the side effects can kick in straight away - it’s advisable to wrap up warm when leaving the unit as a chilly wind can cause your face to twitch and touching a cold car door handle may give you tingle. I had a cold drink after 1 session and it was like drinking broken glass. Your arm may be sore for a couple of days straight after and you may feel nauseous for a couple of days.
Having said all this - everyone reacts differently. You will be given antisickness meds and, if I’m honest, I didn’t really suffer with nausea. The cold touch is pretty common so have gloves ready for getting things out of the fridge/freezer.
I’ve attached a link to a post that we started about chemo side effects which may prepare you?
As I said, everyone reacts differently so go with an open mind and see how it goes? Some people are wiped out by fatigue but I managed to carry on working part-time through mine.
Hope this helps and please let us know how you get on
Take care
