Caecal cancer

Had my colonoscopy a few days ago, the tumour is on the caecum, and has been there a good while. Though a previous CT scan indicated it hasn't spread. Having never even heard of the caecum before I looked it up, couldn't find much but what I did find was not very encouraging. Has anyone else on here any experience of this particular form of bowel cancer?

  • Hi

We have had a few people with that location . You can use the search function at the top of the page ( small magnifying glass) to look at previous posts .

The good news of it not spreading is really important and hope surgery removes it all for you .

    Take care ,

  • Hi Court, many thanks for this.

  • I was wondering how you got on last Monday , I hope you find some information about it. Can they operate?
We’re still waiting  for results of my husbands virtual CTC he had done last Monday. Take Care x

  • Hi Sue, the colonoscopy itself wasn't too bad, but the emptying out process beforehand, and the not eating anything solid for 24+ hours were awful!  They found a tumour on my caecum, it's the end of the colon, next to the appendix I think. The endoscopist said it must have been there a long time and was T2 or T3. I think this is not very good news. I'm seeing the surgeon again on Thursday, so we'll see what he says. I hope your husband gets his result soon and that it'll be something encouraging. All good wishes, Karen.

  • Hi again   Karen, could I ask how long it was before someone got in touch with you after your virtual CTC. I phoned up the scan place where my husband had both a CT and. Virtual CTC to see if his scans had been looked at and yes they had, his CT scan is back at the doctors but we can’t get a phone call with any doctor till 10th October, I’ll go mad by then, his virtual CTC is back with the surgeon who asked for it, I was wondering how long it took them to get in touch with you.

My husband has 3 cancers and just hoping this one doesn’t make four. Does anyone know how we can get the results from the doctors before 10th October, it’s hard work getting past the receptionist and depending on who you speak to wether you get a nice one or not x

  • Hi Sue, a doctor phoned me a week after I had the virtual colonoscopy, to say it was bad news, they had found "abnormalities" . That was the first hint that it could be cancer.  Later I was given the number of a cancer nurse and told to contact her if I had any worries. Does your husband not have anyone like this he can contact? K.xx

  • He has his stomach nurse who I’ve e mailed to see if she can help. Hopefully the bowel surgeon will be in touch soon then. I’m so disappointed with the doctors though how can they make you wait 3 weeks for a phone call to see about a scan..

Did you have to have a colonoscopy with all that stuff you have to drink after the virtual one so they can take biopsy’s. Have you decided what you’re going to do yet, it’s a tough decision isn’t it. Hugs to you x
