Hi. I’m to start my 5th week of intensive radiotherapy and chemo on Monday for rectal cancer. Thing is I feel like giving up on it. I’m struggling with acute groin pain, fatigue and my bowel movements are excruciating. I just don’t think I can take anymore. I would really appreciate any response from those who have gone through this and just how they coped. Thank you.
Hi RR07 . I’m sorry to hear that you’re struggling when you’re so close to completing your treatment. I think Doris58 had similar issues so hopefully will be along shortly. You could maybe also try posting in the Ask a Nurse page?
Hi RR07
i had the exact same feelings! My appointments were a 120 mile round trips every day which added to the exhaustion. I too felt like giving up especially as I had to often wait more than an hour for my turn. Several times I was in tears thinking I couldn't go on. I had severe pain when passing BM and I finally contacted my oncology nurses who were incredibly helpful. I wish I had asked for help sooner , they gave me some pain control and within a couple of days I was much better and the meds also helped get the BM under control too. It will get get better, I didnt think it would but it did so hang on in there. I have had two weeks now without any pain.
hope you feel better soon
