Hi I was diagnosed with bowel cancer two weeks ago I’m still in complete shock this can happen to me, I have a good family and friends support network but would like to talk to others that are going through the same as me. Had a stent fitted to open my bowel yesterday and I’m feeling very uncomfortable as they said I would experience cramps which I am, but I’m feeling very low and upset that I’m going through this and have a rough ride ahead of me which I’m really scared about. Hoping I can speak to others with the similar feelings and to help each other through this journey

thankyou

Lindsay xx

  • Hi  I’ve attached a link to a leaflet about colonic stents and I hope it settles down quickly for you

Have you got a treatment plan in place yet? You have every right to feel ‘why me?’ but unfortunately it won’t change things so try and focus on getting yourself mentally and physically ready for the next few months. Yes it can be tough but may not be as tough as you expect? Quite often people post when they’re having problems but there are many others who have tolerated the treatment reasonably well and maybe don’t like to post about it?

Everyone on here is at different stages of treatment and recovery but happy to chat and support others through theirs. Keep posting and talking and we’ll get you through this

    Take care

  • Hi Lindsay

I just wanted to say hello, others will be along that have all the info and links you will find helpful.
It’s a frightening time , I remember feeling as if I was flight or fight mode. Unable to do either so I froze

There’s lots in this group and bowel cancer is very treatable and designed to treat the individual so it’s not one treatment fits all   The waiting to find out is tough

    Take care

    I’m sending you a hug

  • Thanks Karen for your support I see my consultant on the 1st September and then I will know my treatment plan hopefully by then be a lot more focused thanks x

  • Hi Ola.

Once you learn more about your diagnosis and treatment plan, you may find it helpful to add some of it to your profile page - this way others can know by clicking on your username and you don't need to repeat it so much.

The best document I was given was on my day of diagnosis. It's the pathway document by BowelCancerUK. You may find it a helpful read in the run up to your appointment on 1st Sept. Here is the link in case you haven't seen it:
