I was diagnosed 7 days ago and had a colostomy 5 days ago. My tumor was already blocking my rectum. Diagnosed via the postal bowel Screening test! What a wonderful tool!! I have radiotherapy coming up plus chemo for some random dots elsewhere. Trying to keep smiling but silently terrified. Excellent support from stoma nurses and Rotherham hospital. Getting to grips with changing bags but it's not always pretty!!!
Hi LinSA and welcome to the board. Yes it feels scary but sounds like you have a plan in place to start zapping things. Lots of advice on here and the stoma board so feel free to ask if there’s anything that you’re worried or unsure about
Ileostomy, colostomy, urostomy and any other stoma support
Take care

Hi LinSA
It’s extremely early days for you post surgery, and it is very natural to be exhausted at this point. Completely normal after what your body has been through. Recovery will take time, so don’t be hard on yourself or expect too much. Slow and gentle is the way-your body has lots of healing to do.

Take it easy and be kind to yourself. I have a permanent colostomy and urostomy and had a bigger surgery overall but I honestly did not realise how utterly exhausted I would be after it. Onwards and upwards is the way to look at it and a great attitude to have!

Hi there LinSa
You're doing really well.
I wanted to empathise with you I was exactly the same. The more I pushed the more I lacked energy.
My best way was up and breakfast a little potter about nothing heavy but just a flick about. Then a short Power Nap. I found these really helped my recovery. Listen to your body and rest. Drink plenty of fluids.
Hopefully the weather will warm and you’ll be able to sit outside. That’s a great tonic
The stoma support group Karen mentioned is such a great place for advice and support
I joined that first as I struggled in the early days but it really didn’t take long. I stayed away six weeks after op. Flew to Spain a few months later.
sending you a hug
Ann
