Hi everyone

My brother has recently been diagnosed with bowel cancer and starts chemo on Tuesday.

He is finding it very difficult to eat and feeling uncomfortable all the time. I’m sure this will get worse once he starts treatment, but he is already losing so much weight.

I am hoping to find and offer support here x

  • Hi

    Welcome to the forum .
Sorry to hear about your brother . Has he had any surgery yet ? My mum went through chemo with her primary tumour in place and it actually shrank quite a bit .

We certainly found balancing food intake and maintaining my mum’s weight during chemotherapy quite tricky . However you can ask for guidance from a dietitian to try and help make the right food choices to help him .

This previous thread might help you all prepare to help him through chemo.

We are most certainly here to help support you both through this process .

  • Hi Taliesin

This is a brilliant place to get lots of advice from others. I can’t advise you on chemo as my cancer was rectal. I was straight to theatre as I was close to blocking. Once I had the diagnosis I was encouraged to do exercises and eat healthier to prepare. Unfortunately I was unable to process anything healthy. So I had five sittings a day,  light breakfast, meal replacement drink, small lunch, Dinner protein and small carbs. Mid evening meal replacement drink

I was surprised what affect this had on my energy levels and I didn’t feel so uncomfortable

    Hope this helps

    Take care
