After 3 years scan revealed cancer has returned. Also showing signs in lung and liver. Major op not really a choice.  Have chosen palliative chemo route.  Emotional turmoil, up times and very low times. Still trying to get my head around it all. Feel angry. Is it normal to feel like that

?.

  • Hi I’m not in same position yet however I’m waiting on results for lung and further tests.
My brother is on palliative care and has taken a cruise which he’d threatened for years. Travelled to see us twice. He lives in Spain. He’s cut down his workload and enjoying more social time

He has a return of prostate so his care is hormone’s which do have side affects. He’s making the most of the good days and resting in the not so good

I think anger is natural I will blow my top if I can’t get my lungs sorted however then I’d plan some things I want to do

Keep talking here if it helps.
I find THE ROOM here is a great place to explode. I stamp in shout a lot then slam the door behind me. Of course there’s no door that’s a figment of my imagination. There’s no judgement and no one to offend or upset

    Take care

  • Hi Sorry to hear of your situation,

My bowel cancer has returned as well and is now stage 4 and it is not operable or curable. So I can understand how you feel. It was diagnosed the end of August and not started any treatment yet.

Try and stay positive although difficult. Sending big hugs.

  • Hi

Such a difficult time for you . If you click on my user name you can read my mum’s story as she manages a stage 4 diagnosis. She currently has another recurrence, they come around every five years for her but she has had lots of wonderful living between treatments . She is 13 1/2 years into this . There is a subgroup of patients that do very well on palliative chemo in terms of stabilising the disease .

They say it’s a marathon and not a sprint for stage 4 patients in terms of finding a tolerable dose of chemo that works well on the spread .

Getting in good shape for treatment is a good way of taking some control over parts of this . My mum is now in her 80s but now working on her fitness to see what shape she can get herself into .

I actually felt angry at the beginning despite not being the patient but it was part of the process and did actually propel us forward at times . Thankfully it went away as I am not generally like that .

    Great you joined in .

  • You both sound very brave and courageous I hope your Mother can find a way to get fit that she enjoys as much as she can. I hope you are getting the support you need

  • Hi Blackpudding

So sorry to hear this. It was just about this time last year that my husband was due to go in and get his bowel tumour cut out which was and was successful. He had no adjuvant chemotherapy because they said it wasn't necessary. Four months down the line and a blood test later it was found it was back again. He has been through 4 cycles of Capox since but had to stop because halfway through the 4th cycle he became quite ill. He recently got started again on a new course of Forlfori but after one session this has been stopped as he took a chest infection which was fine because this is all it was, and he got sent home with antibiotics. Then a blood test to make sure he was ok for his next chemo session showed signs of dehydration, so he is currently in hospital at present receiving fluids and a catheter inserted to drain his kidneys. Been an absolute roller coaster but ironically, he is looking better than he has had of late. He also has a permanent stoma. Take Care

  • Thanks for inspiring me Court. I’d read about your PT with your Mum and yesterday I actually walked the sea wall as fast as I could. Okay I’d had fish and chips fish. But the bright weather ,the promenade and the memory of you and your mum walking pushed me out for it.
I slept like a baby when I got home then was awake all night.

All about timing and mine was off

Faloola have you had any joy regarding getting some treatment

  • Hope you enjoyed Dundee. I’ve never been sadly maybe one day. I had a fantastic time in Edinburgh and will go back there maybe summer time

I think that you need to know what’s planned. It seems unfair to leave you wondering what their decision is and be able to give them your opinion on what you would like is important.
Contacting the main man sounds a good plan
