Hi Everyone!
So, went for Jay's oncology appointment today and it's as I've headed, it's sort of good news. It's `baby steps` though because I consider us still not out of the woods just yet. They are going to start Jay on 5FU a week tomorrow (16th December) and will need to see how he goes with this. They took bloods from him at his last appointment, and they came back normal and, his kidney and liver function have gone back to normal too. The onc checked his legs and ankles for swelling and he is satisfied that the swelling has gone there too. So, I take it I did go in preparing for the worst this time and the outcome was slightly better than I imagined either that or it was `third time lucky` as the last two appointments didn't produce such great news. They want to try him on the lower dose first of all just to see how he tolerates it and if they think he's ok on it try to up the dosage. The oncologist said though he doesn't want to compromise on his treatment in that if he doesn't get enough, it may not work again, but too much may go the other way as the CAPOX did and make him really ill again, so he needs to try to find an even balance and as he said `tread with caution`. We will get a phone call at home next Thursday before he goes for his first session on Friday, and they will be in touch about getting his PICC line inserted. I- we both feel as though a 10-ton concrete block has been lifted from our chest and shoulders. So it's probable that we may still be able to enjoy Christmas as it has just been an `afterthought` over the last few weeks and it looks like my prayers have been answered at last and `The Big Fella` up there has been listening after all. I'm not normally that religious, but I have never prayed so much in all my life as I have done over these last few months.

Hi PattyK
I know I was good at predicting things being a bit worse that they might be and my wife also had some unfortunate side effects from the first chemotherapy they tried - she has Leiomyosarcoma. The second type of chemo though made her cancer stable and we have been living with cancer now for over 6 years - so fingers crossed for Jay.
<<hugs>>

Well as you know, I always focus on the positive as I believe it brings positive results. So good to hear, and now focus on enjoying Christmas
Thanks Ed!
Wish we could all adopt your attitude!! Wee bit of a down day today as you'll see from my post earlier today. He's scared sh*t of getting this PICC line in this week but I've had a few coming on here (Karen062 & BuzzK) with encouraging news about the PICC lines and I've read out the comments to him so hopefully it will settle him a bit more. We are a bit more positive than have been lately just want this 2nd treatment to work. Lots of prayers being said. Well they worked for Thursday so hopefully `The Big Man` up there is still listening. Take Care.
