  • I have this vision I will be so ill  from day one with all the side effects, throwing  up all the time tried the rash’s is it really that bad I am really scared I can not do this and am going to spoil everyone’s Christmas Thank you again

  • Hi Fraser1

I adopted a positive attitude from day 1 as I believe that nothing comes from negative thoughts , whereas positive thoughts bring positive results. Everybody reacts differently to chemo (I never had radiotherapy) and for me I had slight nausea, aversion to cold stuff, and a heightened emotional state. I focussed on the idea that each day was a step in the right direction and I now have a great life again.

    Good luck Thumbsup

  • Thanks I seem to go from being positive to so negative just hope the positive in me comes back and I'll get through the five weeks  thanks again

  • Hi Fraser1 I am slightly ahead of you have had radiotherapy which I will say was not very nice I had constant urge too poo but totally constipated that delayed my Chemo for a week but it's gone now. I am now on my second cycle of Chemotherapy and so far have not been at all bad , pins and needles in hands and face was all after 1st one. That's slightly worse on this second go and slight nausea and diareah but not the horror story I was led to expect. I think you have to try and be positive the alternatives to treatment involve much more dire consequences . I haven't actually thrown up yet and the nurses will give you anti sickness and anti diareah drugs to take home. Don't forget your friends and family all love you and will understand if you do get a bit poorly or teasy I apologised to my wife and family before I started. And she got really offended that I might think she would be anything but ok with it. Good luck my friend there are actually a lot of people living with this it amazed me when I spent time at consults and scan etc. All the best buddy.

  • Thank you so much for taking time to tell me your experience I  seem to have read a lot on Google and it was all horrific stories so all the replies on here have been so appreciated

  • No problem I should of said before keep well away from Google it's mostly untrue and scaremongering. This is the best place to get he!p and info.

  • Hi . Are you having 5 weeks of daily radiotherapy with chemo tablets or 5 days of radiotherapy followed by 4 weeks of chemo? I only ask because if it’s the former then it’s quite a low dosage of chemo tablet that is given purely to enhance the effect of the radiotherapy?
Some people have ‘full strength’ chemo before their op which does have more side effects.

Sickness can be a side effect but it’s often just feeling nauseous and you would be given tablets for that - if they didn’t work for you then there’s several different ones to try. The area of skin being zapped may redden but you’ll have cream for that - if it’s a facial rash that you’re worried about then that doesn’t happen with the type of chemo that you’ll be having.

I found the 5 weeks radiotherapy with chemo tablets very doable - in fact I used to get my appointment as early as possible then go into work. Try to keep the positive pants on and you may well find that it’s nothing like as bad as you’re expecting

  • Just to say all the best with your treatment.I had capox after my operation so  a bit different but there are lots of " pills and potions"available if you do have any side effects.hopefully as you will be on the lower dose of chemo you will be fine.

Hang in there you can soon mark the days off on the calender to the end of your treatment.
