  • Hi, , yes I did. IV  5FU with LA over 30weeks, which took 34. Click my name for details, and ask any questions!! It's a low dose for a long time, and you are mostly able to get on with life whilst on it. Take care

  • Hi ya, I've got to have the same thing, don't know what to expect, how are you getting on? Any side affects?

  • Hi,  , have you found any answers? Click on my name if you wish, and if I can help I will.

  • Hi Arora I am on weekly 5fu currently. I’m 3/4 of the way through my planned treatment. It’s intense in that you have to go to hospital every week (plus have blood tests) but it’s gentler than other types of chemo in terms of side effects. I find I’m tired and nauseous with diarrhoea for the first few days, then I’m about normal again by the end of the week. I’m about to re-start work part time. The hardest part for me has been the mental side of things - it’s a long term treatment and can feel like a big hill to climb. But it’s doable. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask x

  • Ps I should add that I’m particularly prone to nausea. I don’t think many on this treatment suffer nausea.

  • Hi thank you for replying, I've got to go back to work in a month full-time. Don't know how I will feel. Did you loose any hair? I'm so worried about that, I have very long hair and I'm scared it will drop out, sounds vain but it's a confidence thing. Suffering bad with my nerves at mo with worry xxx

  • Hi, yes I have, I've decided to go for it and see how I get on, I will let you know. Xxx

    • Hi Arora, can you ask your work about reasonable adjustments? See how you go but you might feel quite tired. I definitely couldn’t work on the day of my infusion. When do you start your treatment? I was worried about my hair too. I lost some hair initially but that’s slowed now and I don’t have any bald patches or anything. The texture on the other hand is pretty awful! It’s gone very dry - but probably not helped by the fact I wash it with baby shampoo and don’t use any product on it at the moment.
Starting chemo can feel very daunting, it’s natural to be anxious. But you’ll feel better once you get started - you’ll start to see a pattern in how your body reacts to it. And you will find ways to cope with the various side effects (and you may not even get any!) x
