Diagnosed with bowel cancer just over a week ago.

Hi there , very scary time at the moment. About three months ago I was found to have a large ovarian cyst which was suspected to be cancerous. This was removed alongside a complete hysterectomy about 5 weeks ago. The cyst was tested after removal and was cancerous but it was not the primary cancer. The cancer had spread from the bowel. This was such a shock as I had not had any symptoms to indicate bowel cancer. I am 61 years of age . Had bowel screening last year and that came back clear so seems to have started up sometime between then and now. Have CT scan coming up in just over a week. Dreading what that might find.

  • Hi ,

Welcome to the forum . So sorry you had to join us but pleased that you have reached out .

You are in the very difficult part where they are still gathering in the information but once that is pulled together everyone here will confirm a good treatment plan gives it some structure to move forward with .

Hopefully they will find the primary location in the bowel soon for you and get a plan to remove it too .

I take it you have had some recent CT scans with your other surgery ?

Ask anything you like . Everyone here is very friendly .

    Take care ,

  • Thank you for your reply. Nice to hear from somebody. I did have CT scans for the cyst but nobody was looking at the bowel so nothing was noticed. Although they can see that it had not spread to the liver but it had spread to the ovaries so it is obviously quite advanced. Have cT scan next week and the colonoscopy.
